Try these solutions if your refrigerator or freezer is experiencing ice buildup. Check the Freezer Ice Building Up wiki for more troubleshooting instructions.

Cause 1: Dirty or Damaged Door Gasket

The door gasket is the rubber seal that lines the edge of the refrigerator and freezer doors. Over time, it can collect dirt or become damaged, leading to a weak seal. Clean the gasket using mild dish soap and warm water, wipe dry, and check for any visible signs of damage. If the gasket is torn or significantly worn, it may need to be replaced.

Cause 2: Misaligned Doors

If the refrigerator or freezer doors are not properly aligned, they may not seal tightly. Check if the doors are level and if they close evenly. Adjust the hinges or leveling legs as needed to ensure proper alignment.

Cause 3: Obstructions

Make sure no items are blocking the door from closing fully. Sometimes, food packages or containers can interfere with the door's ability to seal tightly.

Cause 4: Excessive Frost or Ice Buildup

If the freezer compartment has excessive frost or ice buildup, it can prevent the door from sealing properly. Thawing the freezer and removing any excess ice may solve the issue. Ensure that the freezer door is closing properly without any obstructions.
