The Vacuum Does Not Turn On

Your vacuum shows no signs of powering on

Battery Not Charged

Put the vacuum on the charging base. If one half of the blue charging light is illuminated, the vacuum is correctly on the charging base and the battery is charging. Continue to charge the device until the other half of the charging light is illuminated, indicating that the battery is fully charged.

Faulty Battery

When the vacuum will not power on even after charging, it is possible that the battery is faulty. In this case, replace the battery.

The Vacuum Suction Does Not Work

Your vacuum suction is not functioning

Dust Cup is Blocked

Remove the dust cup container from the vacuum and empty it.

To empty the dust cup container:

  1. Press the dust cup release button and pull out the dust cup
  2. Hold the handle and press the dust cup door release button the remove debris
  3. Check for blockages in the dust cup filter and try removing any remaining debris that may be hindering the suction functioning

It is essential that you clean your dust cup filter on a monthly basis.

In order to clean the dust cup:

  1. Ensure the vacuum is turned off while removing the dust cup container
  2. Remove the foam filter and rinse it under water until the water is clear
  3. Wait 24 hours to let it dry before putting it back in the vacuum

If the dust cup is still blocked and has issues, you may need toreplace the dust cup and/or its filter.

Battery Not Charged

Put the vacuum on the charging base. If one half of the blue charging light is illuminated, the vacuum is correctly on the charging base and the battery is charging. Continue to charge the device until the other half of the charging light is illuminated, indicating that the battery is fully charged.

Loose Motorized Brush

The motorized brush should be firmly attached to the main body of the vacuum. If the motorized brush is able to be detached from the main body without pressing the release button, it was not properly attached. Simple reinsert the main body into the motorized brush. The motorized brush release button will click in when it is fully inserted.

Suction Motor Deteriorating

If none of the above solutions fix the vacuum suction, it is possible that the suction motor needs replacement or repair. It is best to contact Shark. We also have aguide to replace that motor can that be viewed.

The Vacuum Does Not Charge

Your vacuum charging indicator does not light up

Charging Base Not Plugged into Outlet

Verify that the charging adapter is correctly plugged into an outlet and the charging base. The charging adapter plugs into the back of the charging base.

Vacuum Loose From Charging Base

Ensure that the vacuum is fully placed in the charging base. The device should fit snug in the charging base and should not have excess room to move.

Charge Contacts Obstructed

The device will not be able to charge if the charge contacts are covered with too much dirt or dust. Clean the metal contacts which are located on both the charging base and the back of the motorized brush.

The Roller Brush Does Not Rotate

Your vacuum roller brush is stiff and does not move

Roller Brush is Off

Ensure that the vacuum is turned on to the correct mode. It should be powered on and set on the roller brush mode. The vacuum must also be tilted back for the roller brush to work.

Brush is Blocked

Sometimes, accumulation of debris can block the roller brush and prevent it from functioning.

In order to clean the motorized roller brush:

  1. Ensure the vacuum is turned off
  2. Remove the brush from the vacuum using the release button on the back of the main vacuum unit
  3. Straighten the air passage by flipping back the connector and remove any remaining debris

It is essential to avoid using sharp objects to remove debris because this may damage the vacuum brush. If needed, carefully take a pair of scissors and cut the debris from the roller brush and slowly pull it out with your hands. If none of these solutions work, you may need to replace your roller brush.

The Vacuum Does Not Stand On its Own

Your vacuum has trouble staying upright

Broken Latch

If your vacuum does not stay upright, ensure that the handle is lifted up all the way until you hear it click and lock in place. If the vacuum still does not stand up on its own, take off the top panel of the vacuum and check the latches to see if they are broken or have any blockages.

The pin that holds the bottom of the vacuum won't secure and the bottom keeps coming detached

from the vacuum

Peggy reboletti - Replica

You may be able to find a replacement part on eBay fairly cheap—I checked today and there are several available 5.27.19.

Aslanslucy -

My vacuum is doing the same thing. Not only that, but it keeps dying right after I turn the vacuum on and it has been on the charger without being used for over 3 days. Anyone else having this problem?

jettiebettierox -

Please be aware that the on/off switch is very cheap and will also keep this unit from turning on.

Steve - Replica

Roller works for about 5 seconds and then stops. I have cleaned all debris and filter is clean. Suction is still present but brush will not turn more than 5 seconds initially.

Kristina Miller - Replica

Got a new battery and the brush still only turns initally for 5 seconds, then turns off. There is no blockages and suction remains good.

Kristina Miller -

Mine is doing the same thing . How do we fix it?

kelliwendell@gmail.com -

I’m having the exact same problem. I replaced the belt that turns the brush as I thought the old one may have stretched a bit from use, but that did not fix the problem. Were you ever able to repair yours?

Sara Terro -

Go to Google and type in Shark Navigator Freestyle vacuum brush not spinning. A youtube video will co0me up in the results showing you exactly how to fix this issue.

James P -

This is the same problem I'm having. Did you figure it out?

Candace -

Stuck in safe mode. So the brush wont rotate??? Only 2 months old. Every is clear and clean, belt good….how to reset or fix?

Vacuum is charging stand and charges, but looses the charge once the light on the vacuum goes out. I have to watch the vacuum and as soon as the charging light goes out, I have to use the vacuum. Do I need a new battery? New vacuum?

rmartin0528 - Replica

Remove the battery and put it in the freezer for half an hour or so then reinstall.

I have a shark sv1110 cordless unit and as long as the handle stick that contains the motor in the dust cup is not connected to the actual floor roller it will work it turns on both speeds however if I connect the handle to the floor unit it stops working I don't understand what the problem could be I've checked for any debris that might be blocked I've used another vacuum to suction it appears that the motors working fine. . I just can't keep the unit together because it will not turn on if I take them apart the unit turns on please help me if you can provide me any information that may be able to help I would greatly appreciate it my email address is notthistime714@gmail.com

Laurel Hartmann - Replica

Same issue with mine!!!!

Jody gonzales -

See my posts below. Same problem after getting on/off switch to work again, learned electrical connector top/bottom was loose fit…………was able to repair.

Willard Moore -

The both sides of the charging light flashes slowly when I have it on the docking station. Is it suppose to do this while charging?

Sharon Whetstone - Replica

I put my Shark Navigator Freestyle on the docking station and both sides of the blue light flash slowly. Is it suppose to do this? I got this vacuum 2nd hand so no book.

Sharon Whetstone - Replica

Sharon, In case this helps, you can print out or look at the manual here: https://www.manualshelf.com/manual/shark...

The flash is about every 3 seconds.

Aslanslucy - Replica

stopped working 8 months after i bought it………. piece of crap

fordredranger - Replica

Hi, my Freestyle now detaches from the base and I noticed the release button seems broken. i think the latch must have broken off. Someone here said you could get a replacement on Ebay - couldnt find it. If you know the name of the part (white plastic button on the back of the handle) or part #, I would appreciate it. Love this vac!! Thanks

Jane McHale - Replica

My plastic button broke long ago. Can still release bottom from top by using old golf tee to press on metal button latch that plastic button once pushed on. Works OK.

Willard Moore -

Happy as a clam with my SV1106!! Don’t have to use my Shark Rotator Professional for the every day pickups. Altho I like it also.

fogfrank1957 - Replica

Our shark navigator freestyle unit never shows a fill charge ( only 1/2  of the blue light comes on and stays that way even after 2-3 days of non use) when we try to use it, it often times only runs for 1-3 minutes, other times it will run until it depletes the battery..

Larry J. Bearce Sr. - Replica

roller works for about 5 seconds and then stops Suction is still present but brush will not turn more than 5 seconds. turn off then on the brush moves for 5 seconds and stops. what do I need to do ????

ranger9 - Replica

I can’t get any suction and it is fully charged, filter and dust bin clean, brush is attached. Not very old so don’t believe the suction motor could be bad. Any other ideas???

Beth vandergrift - Replica

Did you ever find a solution? Mine is doing the exact same thing.

mcmiller1 - Replica

The battery lights keeps flashing - even after charging for 14 hours. Vacuum seems to be working ok but light just keeps flashing.

Judy - Replica

After charging for a day, vacuum turns off almost immediately after starting. Vacuum will not turn on again for approx. 30 minutes, when it starts it turns off immediately. Any thoughts on how to fix is appreciated.

tim cotter - Replica

Mine does the same thing. Took it out on the carport and smashed it, got a

Mike Evans -

Mine too! Except, when I take the top off, it powers on and stays on.

Jody gonzales -

Piece of $@$* vacuum, must be made in china

Mike Evans - Replica

Yes mine is doing the same thing. Charging for days without use and when I go to use it, it does within seconds. What's up with that?

Jeanne Dobson - Replica

The unit only powers on, when I take the top of the vaccum off….??????

Jody gonzales - Replica

You have to take the rollers off and clean any debris or hair that may be on the inside of each end. The little square plastic pieces pop out. This fixes mine every time

Neen C - Replica

This fixes the shut off issue https://youtu.be/I-IrTYOK4Cc

Jonathan - Replica

So what happens if you have already done all that but the thing still only works for few seconds then stops?!? My battery has charge, I tested it with my man tool (lol). It seems to shut off when the handle goes to the right (?) or is it the power switch? Should I just throw it away?

stacey - Replica

My navigaator stops working When handle is turned to left or right..will start immediately when it is moved straight

Gloria - Replica

the foot switch does not work

mduffy5577 - Replica

This may be a common problem with others…..ours has the same result. Seems possibly related to frequent use, plus causing the intermittent run condition. Have not investigated opening the housing to inspect if the switch contact terminals could be another factor. Maybe more replies will be forthcoming.

John Micklo -

Mine too. Found a Youtube video for this problem. Foot switch pushes on a very small switch attached to circuit board. Check it out. My foot switch now works great.

Willard Moore -

Unit charges until the light comes on if used right away there are no problems if the unit stands in the charger or is off the charger overnight it is dead battery test the right amount of voltage

donf8000 - Replica

I have the identical problem. Sometimes it works and will run for a full 20 mins or so, while other times it dies in 2 seconds after coming off the charger base. If the battery were NG I would not think it would ever hold a charge, so I am reluctant to spend $ on a new battery. The Navigator is 4 years old so a worn battery would not be a surprise, but why does it hold a charge sometimes and not others? Does it charge and then discharge while still on the charger?

John Manoush -

I later found that a new battery was the solution. Easily done for only $30-40.

John Manoush -

I took it apart to clean and after i put it back together, the battery light in on and charged but the switch will not activate now. I took it apart again and the spring looks like it’s properly in place. After putting a new battery, it shows charged but still won’t turn on. When I take it off of the charger, the lights go off and it wont start

Lore Murdock - Replica

The suction passage from the base to the filter box gets clogged. Press the release button at the bottom of the handle unit and separate the handle unit from the base. Inspect and remove any clogs.

Darryl Olivier - Replica

I would like to see a diagram of starter. Button inside vacuum. Removed cover to fix starter , did that but where does the spring go for the start button?

rosemary_houlihan@yahoo.com - Replica

Mine, too, would sometimes run and sometimes not after charging. A new battery from Amazon fixed it.

Darryl Olivier - Replica

Can’t separate handle from base.

Diane Pastore - Replica

Mine too. I removed plastic push button from bottom unit. You will see a chrome metal button latch which holds two pieces together. I used old golf tee and small hammer to gently tap on this chrome latch button. The button will move inward and allow upper /lower to separate. I noticed the spring that the button is attached to was rusty. Poor chrome job. Removed spring, I used small brass brush to clean up rust and then reassemble. I didn't replace plastic button. Now just use golf tee to release top/bottom when needed. Works OK.

Willard Moore -

You all need to seperate the Lower head and the stick with the push button now you see the connector on the lower unit half take the

tiny cover off you will now see the broken wire causing your issues or alot of your peoples issues turns and vac cutting out or stoping

I am a good solder and I was able to resolder it and that was almost a year ago works perfect still.

Kevin Storey - Replica

I had similar problem when using the vacuum. Motor on top would cut out when turning handle or moving vacuum back & forth. Looked for broken wire. After much time learned that the electrical connectors top/bottom were a loose connection. Had to disassemble connector blocks, remove pin connectors and clean/tighten up for a tight electrical connection. Reassembled and now runs like new vacuum. Earlier post by me suggested bad motor. Not so, motor ran fine as long as Shark stood still.

Willard Moore -

To fix the "Roller works for about 5 seconds then stops” problem, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-IrTYOK...

J V - Replica

The battery charges then I can only use it a minute and it’s dead, do I need a new battery

chrjmy - Replica

Similar to a problem I had and a battery replacement solved it. If your machine is 4 or more years old this would be particularly likely. Replacing the battery is very easy and only costs around $30 for a generic one.

John Manoush -

The lights are illuminating a solid blue but the vacuum doesn’t turn on. Any ideas why?

jenn5500 - Replica

If your vacuum is 4 or more years old, a battery replacement will likely solve the problem.

John Manoush -

Mine had the problem where the base would come separated from the main unit while vacuuming--seems like a common issue online. Here's what I did: With the base separated, look inside the swiveling elbow tube with the little steel ball clip and two-pronged power connector. There is metal sleeve inside the plastic elbow housing--this sleeve needs to oriented properly and free to spring into place to lock the two parts together. In my vacuum, the sleeve was so encrusted with grit and dust that it wouldn't properly flex into place to secure the pieces. Using a dry toothbrush and some compressed air, clean all the grit out of this area, especially around the little steel ball. If that ball doesn't have enough spring-travel (and it's tiny), the base won't lock securely into place. After cleaning, it now works fine and stays together. Probably good to make this step a part of long-term maintenance. Hope it helps!

Patrick Conway - Replica

Vacuum functions normal, dust bin is clean and empty as is the foam insert below tue cup, it's fully charged when I turn it on everything works fine, the moment I move to different type of flooring example; runner carpet, the vacuum shuts off as if I have sucked up an obstruction only I haven't sucked anything up it just keeps turning off. The pile carpet is not high it's a really thin carpet . Any ideas?

James - Replica

Blue light brinking on both sides of oval light. What does that mean

Loretta Young - Replica

Both halves of blue oval blinking means it's charging. One half blinking means it's fully charged. If it never switches over from full to half, maybe the battery (or charger) is faulty.

Patrick Conway - Replica

If the battery won't take a charge, remove it and put it in your freezer for an hour or so. Then put it back in the vacuum and recharge.

Darryl Olivier - Replica

I put mine on the charger and charge it I take it off I turn it on it turns on it immediately turns off I put it back on the charger it does the same thing sometimes I'll pick it up it will work and sometimes it won't
