Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7016 Troubleshooting

The laptop's will not turn on or respond when the power button is pressed.

Check if the power adapter is properly plugged into the computer and into the power outlet. Check if the light on the power adapter is on when plugged into the wall. If the light is not on you may have a faulty power adapter.

After confirming the power adapter is not the issue, plug the computer into the power adapter to charge. If the computer does not charge then the battery is likely bad. Check if the battery is properly connected to the computer by removing and reinstalling it. You can use our guide here to replace the battery. If this fails to solve the issue, remove and replace with a new battery. If the issue is resolved then the previous battery is faulty. If issue persists then the issue resides somewhere else in the conduction path in the computer. Solving such issues is beyond this troubleshooting guide.

Files will not load properly on computer. Computer occasionally "blue screens" or will not properly start up.

Listen for are any clicking noises or other unusual sounds coming from the hard drive when the computer is on. It is normal for the hard drive to make "whiring" or electronic motor noises, but any clicking or impact sounds within the hard drive indicate that it is nearing complete failure and should be replaced immediately. Your hard drive may not be properly connected. Turn off the computer and remove bottom panel. Remove hard drive and reinstall it. Turn computer back on. If the issue persists then the hard drive may need to be replaced. To replace the hardiness, follow our hard drive replacement guide.

The computer cannot perform basic functions or will freeze up when attempting them

The RAM may need to be replaced or reconnected. Shut off the computer and open up the back panel. Disconnect and reconnect the RAM sticks and power on the computer. If issue persists the RAM will need to be replaced. You can see how to access the RAM using our guide

Your computer may be running too many programs, causing it to slow down. Click on the "Start" button and search "Task Manager." Check all running programs and clear those that are unnecessary. Additionally, run a web search of the names of any tasks that are not familiar. If you come accross a task commonly known to be malicious, install a malware scanning application such as Malwarebytes and follow its directions for scanning for malware. Malicious programs can often reduce the performance of your computer by using large amounts of RAM and CPU power. If problem persists new RAM may need to be installed.

The computer will overheat when in use.

If you do not hear the fan when you are using the laptop for a resource intensive task, such as watching a video, or working with large files, the fan is most likely not working and broken. The laptop can overheat from the lack of airflow will be noticeable during operation. You may get temperature warnings from Windows, or the laptop may shut itself down unexpectedly due to the excess temperature. If either of these are the case, you can attempt to clean the fan. Computers can overheat when the fans are clogged with dust or if the bearings within the fan are beginning to fail. Both of these will result in the fan running more than usual and the laptop feeling warmer to the touch. This can cause excess noise, which will likely be noticed, especially when using the laptop for resource intensive tasks. To try to fix the problem, you can remove the backplate, and use compressed air to blow off the fan. You can also use a small brush (like a small makeup brush) to carefully clean the fan. If this does not resolve the issue, your fan is likely defective. Please follow our guide to replace your fan.

Portions of or entire screen not visible.

Computer powers up (power light is on), but screen is black.

If upon starting the computer absolutely nothing is displayed on the screen, and restarting the computer does not resolve the issue, recall if any changes were made to video drivers, or to the system BIOS. Changes to either could cause this issue. If neither of such changes have been made recently, please follow our guide for replacing the screen.

If there are black spots blocking the display there may be a dead pixel. If this is the issue your screen will continue to form dead pixels and will need to be replaced. If there are little spots of color that are stuck on the screen blocking the display there may be a stuck pixel. One thing you can try before replacing the screen for a stuck pixel, is playing a video designed to unstick pixels. If these issues are not fixed by the method described, the screen may need to be replaced. If so, follow our guide to replace the screen.

Disc Drive will not function properly

Both of these symptoms are likely due to a hardware failure of the optical disc drive. Please follow our guide to replace the disc drive.

The Battery will not charge properly

If the Laptop is experiencing issues with charging or holding a charge, a faulty battery is the most likely cause. Please follow our guide to replace the battery

If computer will power on with charger plugged in, but will not if the charger is disconnected, a faulty battery is the most likely cause. Often windows will show a warning on the battery indicator, indicating it needs replacement.

If the computer does not turn on even with the power adapter plugged in, please check that the light on the charger “brick” turns on when it is plugged in. If this light does not come on, the charger is likely broken. Purchasing a replacement charger will likely resolve this issue.

The Keyboard Does Not Respond Properly.

There may be dirt and dust particles under the individual keys that are hindering the functionality of the keyboard causing the characters to not show up when pressed. You can use compressed air to release the dirt from under the keys. If this does not resolve the issue, follow our guide to remove the keyboard to clean more thoroughly under the keys.
