Does your Dyson Ball Animal vacuum cleaner’s brush bar no longer turn during use? Dyson Ball Animal vacuum cleaners are susceptible to a range of problems that can cause their brush bar to become stuck. Check the following causes to identify and solve the problem.

Clogged Brush Bar

If your vacuum’s brush bar is not turning, the bar may be clogged by hair and other debris. Ensure that the brush bar button, which is gray and located next to the power button, is turned on. If this is not the issue, then the brush bar itself may be damaged or stuck. Remove and check the brush bar for built-up debris using this Dyson Ball Animal Brushbar Replacement Guide.

Faulty Brush Bar Motor

If you have tried the above solution and your vacuum still refuses to pick up dust and debris, your vacuum’s motor may be at fault. If there are no obstructions in any of the hoses, unclip the hose from the body of the vacuum. If you cannot feel the air being sucked into this compartment, check the filter. Remove the vacuum’s dirt bin from the rest of its body. Put your hand over the filter component at the base of the bin and turn on the vacuum. If you can feel the air in the filter component, but not in the hose attachment in the rear of the vacuum body, the problem lies in the cyclone assembly. However, if you do not feel air coming from the filter, there is most likely a problem with the motor or fan. Check this Dyson support page for Dyson Ball Animal replacement parts. There is also an issue of the brush bar not spinning due to lack of power, I replaced my brush bar with a new one which also did not spin. On disassembly of the unit and following the power, I found one of the power cables to the head had been pinched and severed, down by the wheel. Repair is done but putting it back together is a challenge be warned!

I have a dyson dc25. The brush bar is not working. I have replaced the brush bar. Still no action. I have checked the switches and they appear to be working. The gray brush bar push button does not appear to be ok. Have you any suggestions ?

The cables to provide power will have been trapped, on or both will be severed. Strip it down and it will be obvious, there is a channel once the ball has been removed there the cable run is. I replaced the head with new and it did not work, resorted to taking it apart as nothing to lose then. Torx drivers needed and all a bit fiddly but take photos of how it is arranged before removing bits will makes it easier.

Hey David, . . . Tim Strong. I'm having the excact same problem (DC-25 Ball) just started not working yesterday ! So, I tested for AC current at the jack there where the power head comes off and . . . I don't have any. So, in order to see if a faulty, dragging motor fried the switch, I rigged a cord up, thereby enabling 110v to go DIRECTLY to the p/h motor, and sure enough, the power head motor DRAGS when powered up. now, to be honest, I'm GUESSING 110v is correct, as I do not have any real manual on these monsters. We're considering laying out the cash for a new one. It's been good to us for six or seven years, (and we have a dog so we 've used it alot.) thanks for posting, I don't feel as lonely now ! hahahaha ! Good luck, and may God bless you and yours. Tim.

So my brushbar won’t spin when turned on, but spins easily by hand. I took the brushbars off and cleaned it and put back together but no luck. Suction is great at both the hose and filter under the collection bin. Any other ideas?

Yes, the power feed to the brush bar has been cut, you need to take it apart and splice the cables, in mine the cable had been pinched and separated in the ball section. There is a small channel they run through and the cable had pushed out the mechanism or abrasion had cut the cable. It is a relatively simple fix, but the dis and re-assembly is the most fiddly part.

I did mine months ago and all working just fine since then, total cost for the repair was time and some tape, a local repair shop would be able to fix it too.
