Loud Fan Noise

Loud Fan noise occurs when the computer needs to increase the fan speed in order to help dissipate heat.

Fans have accumulated dust

Overheating problems can make your fans work harder and spin at a higher speed to remove heat generated from the CPU which can cause noise.

Dust accumulated in the CPU and graphics card can also prevent your Laptop from dissipating heat. Also, it can cause the fans to run longer and make more noise. You have to clean the dust accumulated in the air-vents.

The following guide should be followed when cleaning the air-vents.

Damaged bearing

A damaged bearing can create a high pitched noise as the fan speeds up, or there may be a grinding noise from a motor whose interior lubrication has failed. If this is the case then your computer may be overheating and the only solution is to purchase a new fan or replace it with the old one.

Slow Boot-Up

When launching the laptop, the boot-up time seems longer than normal.

Over time, the device might experience slow boot-up times. There are many factors that come into play whenever the device is booted. A slow boot-up could be caused due to many applications trying to open on startup. This problem is software related.

Adjusting startup settings

  • Step 1: Once in windows, open the task manager.
  • Step 2: Go to the tab that is labeled “StartUp”.
  • Step 3: Right click any applications that you wish not to start on bootup. This will prevent unwanted applications from taking up valuable storage on startup.

Exhausted hard disk drive (HDD)

Another issue could be simply that the hard drive is slow. It is highly Recommended to upgrade the storage to a M.2. Solid State Drive.

Optional: If you are upgrading to an SSD, follow the same steps as upgrading memory. This can be started by opening up the back of the laptop.

The following guide should be used when trying to upgrade to a SSD.

Slow Performance When Performing Simple Tasks

When using basic applications such as a web browser, the laptop may experience extended delays.

When trying to complete simple tasks such as using a web-browser or using more than one basic application at once, the laptop may be running slower than normal.

Slow memory clock speed

A cause of this issue is the memory speed. This means that the only way to solve this issue is to upgrade to a faster clock-speed memory module.

The following guide should be followed for upgrading or replacing memory.

Limited memory capacity

One cause of this issue is simply due to the fact that the laptop doesn't contain enough memory capacity to perform the applications you wish. The only way of solving this issue is by replacing the memory on the laptop to a higher capacity memory.

The following steps should be followed when upgrading the memory:

  • Step 1: Have a clean surface that will be used to upgrade and fix the laptop. Make sure that power is disconnected from the laptop, and make sure that the laptop is completely powered off.
  • Step 2: Flip the laptop over, and make sure to unbolt all the appropriate screws to take off the back-cover.
  • Step 3: Once the back-cover is carefully taken off, look for the memory slots.
  • Step 4: There should be an unused DDR4 SO-DIMM slot. Install the new memory into this slot.
  • Step 5: Carefully reassemble the back cover.
  • Step 6: Power on the device, and sign into windows as normal.
  • Step 7: Launch task manager, enter the process task, and make sure that the memory tab contains the upgraded value of the memory.

Battery Life Diminishes Over Time

The computer seems to die more frequently compared to when first purchased.

A common issue that is present with almost every laptop is that the battery seems to die frequently over time. This can be caused due to many factors. The following has some tips on how to help solve this issue. If problems still occur, it is recommended to replace your battery.

The following guide should be used to replace the laptop's battery.

Diminishing battery health

Check your battery health with your AC adapter plugged in. If an error occurs, it's time for a new battery. If no issue is found, it means the battery health is good, but maybe there are some applications, software, or system settings causing the increased battery consumption.

Optimization of your battery

To optimize your battery life, try reducing the amount of running applications, reduce the screen brightness, turn off keyboard backlight, remove non-used peripheral(external) devices that could be consuming your battery, disable bluetooth/wireless function and also change the power plan to ASUS RECOMMENDED to balance performance with battery consumption.

Display Will not Turn on Upon Start-Up

The display is not responding when the laptop is powered.

When booting up the laptop, the screen might not turn on upon boot-up. There many causes of this issue. One cause could be that the there is no power sent to the laptop. This can be caused due the battery not being fully functional Another cause is the display is disabled by a shortcut that will disable the display.

Power is not being delivered

Sometimes upon boot-up, the display may not turn on. The cause of this can simply be due to the fact that there is not enough power being sent to the display.

  • Pressed power button, no screen response AND no power light on
  • Ensure laptop battery is charged, test charging and AC adapter cable for efficiency and durability (loose connection, damaged, exposed wire)
  • Remove charging cable, press and hold power button for a HARD RESET (approx. 40 seconds)

Display is disabled

Upon boot-up the display may appear to be off. However, there seems to be adequate amount of power being delivered. Another cause could be due to the display being disabled. The following should be followed to see if the display is disabled.

Pressed power button, no screen response, BUT power light is on:

  • Press fn + f7 in case screen is disabled
  • Press fn + f6 to increase display brightness
  • Ensure graphics is normal by connecting an external display and pressing fn +f8
  • Press windows key + ctrl + shift + B to reset display settings
  • Remove charging cable, press and hold power button for a HARD RESET (approx. 40 seconds)

If the above is followed and the display isn't turning on, the display may need to be replaced.

The following guide can be used to replace the screen of the laptop.
