Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Troubleshooting

Same is happening to mine. Followed all protocols and still overheats.

Mine picks up dirt but dirt spews out the lower front vents whenever the vacuum is on—do you know what could be wrong? We emptied out all the dirt containers and super-cleaned all of the filters and it’s still happening.

Just bought a shark lift away and it will not even pick up a loose thread on the carpet when I unclip the hose there seems to be good suction from it very disappointed at moment heard great things about this hoover

My brush assembly stopped turning. Has suction. Two months old. NV-835

Light flashes in the power head unit. I called Shark. the unit stated it has a

SEVEN (7) YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY.

The person I spoke to said said the unit not turning is NOT covered by the warranty!!

He said I needed to purchase a new brush unit that cost $89.00

He said since the unit was less than a year old (Nine is TWO months Old)

He would give me a special price for this replacement of about $40.00

I was upset and just wanted the good vac to work so I paid the requested $40.00

Should come in next week. I had other Shark models for over 8 years—no problem.

VERY unhappy. I am out the price of the NV835—$329.00 now plus $40.00 for a two month old unit. I only use it two to three time a week in a single family home.

Ours overheats after just 30 minutes of use.

I do the dust filters ect and wait 45 mins and after 30mins it switches off again!

By consumers law there is 5 year guarantee on any electric appliances.

Do you directly arrange replacement or does the shop need to deal with this!

My Apex powered lift away is overheating after just a few minutes of use, followed the proper procedures to correct this to no avail. I have had the vacuum about 6 months. Is it possible I need to replace the filters instead of just cleaning them?

Cause of overheating of Apex powered lift away with zero m. Due to cement floors there are times when little puddles of water form on floor(due to dogs drooling or snow melting off shoes etc), these puddles are vacuumed up, resulted in hair matting between first roller and cover, building up over time, finally so thick motor was really working to turn the roller. surprised I didn’t destroy vacuum. Cleaned mat of dirt/hair out of roller cover, working good as new. I thought the vacuum seemed really hard to work in the last couple weeks , but, rollers were turning so I assumed it was my imagination. This vacuum earns an A++ , whoever designed it deserves a big pay raise.

My vacuum keeps overheating and I followed all protocols and it still happens. It’s 3 months old and shuts off after 15 minutes due to overheating. I cleaned the filters, no obstructions and I’m very frustrated. Can it be a bad vacuum and I need to take it in and get a new one or am I missing something that I need to do. Please help bc I love this vacuum so I’m hoping it’s just a defect in mine

I have had many problems with my lift away shark. keeps cutting off and blows dust out of the front instead of picking up. This hoover has not been working more times than it has.

Checked all blockages and cleaned and washed filters. Disapointed as im not finished paying for it yet.

The center (circular) compartment of my “dust cup” is always empty, while the front portion fills very quickly. It’s small, so I can hardly finish a room without emptying at least once. Is this by design, or am I missing something??

We have had ours for 18 months and now it overheats within 8 minutes of use? we have always cleaned and or replaced the filters frequently????? Love this Vacuum when it is running. Very disappointed with the lifespan???

The rollers run but I have no suction. Have checked for obstruction but none seen.

My poor 80 year old neighbor has had so many problems with hers overheating!! Poor thing calls me almost everyday. Now she lives in a small 1 bedroom apartment. It can't but 20 minutes tops to vacuum the entire thing, maybe 30 because she is older. It shuts off twice. I actually tried it in my place thinking maybe she is doing something and she is not aware of it. Same thing happens. Its horrible. You pay so much more for these vacuums because they boast about how much better they are. I'll tell ya my $45. Bissel vacuum does the job just as well without all the issues!!

We can't turn off the vacuum without unplugging from the wall outlet. Would this be a faulty switch. Is it an easy replace?

This was happen8ng to me also…and so I washed all filters….etc….now it says use a toothbrush on the black one at the top of the rubbish container….I did this and got some muck out….and turned back on…still no suction….then I pulled the black cover at top of rubbish container and it came off….a fine mesh filter was underneath….completely clogged up…..suction is now fully back…no grit coming out the front….BUT… hoover won’t switch OFF ….I have to pull plug from socket…..anyone know how to deal with this one!

From the horses mouth. The battery is a dud and don’t waste money replacing it. They all have a major defect.

My mom was experiencing this same problem with barely any time with her new vac when it continuously overheated and failed to suck up dirt. I went through your obvious unclog check filters and when breaking down the handle part noticed there was a huge clump of wow where it bends into the holding power area. Some places are hard to see the cloggish mass of everything. It still permits suction without the piece attached. Now it works like a gem!

Brush roll stopped turning and red light is on steadily. Completely disassembled the vacuum head, checked motor and belts all seems okay. Even, based on a tubetube video, removed the microswitch that turns the roller on/off when the wand/handle is moved to the upright position and connected the two wires together. I’m convinced the problem lies within the handle - the carpet pile height switch. Can’t find instructions on how to disassemble the handle. Removed all the screws and handle still will not come apart.

I have had my Shark Navigator Lift-Away for exactly one week. It worked great the first time I used it, but today as I was vacuuming it shut off. I followed the troubleshooting instructions, unclogged it, and still not working. I am furious about this as I spent an extensive time researching this product and it was very highly rated. If it takes just an average vacuuming to overheat this machine, that tells me this product is deeply defective. I don't understand how a company can market and charge this kind of money on such a flawed product. So disappointed.

Penny: Do not despair. Our Shark failed after about two years which seems to be quite common. I’m fairly experienced with troubleshooting and repair and pretty well tore down our Shark. Everything I could access, including the motor, tested good. I suspect faulty wiring inside the wand. That item cannot be taken apart. I called Shark and they agreed to send us a new, more expensive model, for just the cost of shipping. The new Shark works great (so far) and automatically cleans the hair out of the roller. So, I’d suggest you call Shark. I believe the vacuum has a seven year warranty, at least our original one did. So, for the price of shipping (under $25) you can get a replacement. BUT since you’ve only owned your vacuum for one week I’d insist they pay for shipping too. Good luck!

Mine completely died. I contacted shark and they sent me a new body with the motor. After 3 uses it died. Haven’t tried to see if it cooled enough to start running again. I have found that sharks are the best and worst products at the same time. They are so user friendly and get the job done, but never last.

I purchased my shark vacuum from Costco/lift away model. My brush is not rotating. I have done all the troubleshooting suggestions. I found that when I released the bottom brush part and then clicked it back to main vacuum, the brush light comes on and engages for a few seconds but then the brush light turns off and does not work. How can I fix this?

hi my apex 1002 was shutting off after a few mins of use, i swapped out the filters and it is working. i vacuum every day due to hair, so the filters went bad after 5 months. Its not shutting off now, hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! I had to disconnect the vacuum, knock the dust out of the filters, remove string from the roller, clear dust bunnies etc. out of the hose, and remove stuff stuck in the top and bottom of the canister. It is working again, thankfully!

Suction is good ,all is cleaned and clear, when putting the power nozzle on light is green for 2 sec and turns red. Have tried everything..all is good except that

My shark vacuum seems to suck the dirt up but all the dirt gets stuck in the hose at the bottom where the hose curves which prevents almost everything from getting in the waste bucket of the vacuum. I have noticed the motor is getting almost hot enough to where it's uncomfortable to you touch that part of the vacuum.

1. I made sure to clean the filters except the filter that is a big block (I'm assuming needs replaced.

2. I made sure I could look through every hose of the vacuum including taking the handle a part.

3. The bottom of the vacuum where the wheel turns is difficult to clean due to how deep the security screws are . But I get what stuff is wrapped around the vacuum wheel (the long wheel that spins at the bottom)

My shark powered lift away (model zu 632) will not turn on when we disconnect the wand and the handle, but will operate when fully connected. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

My shark hoover keeps cutting out when in use, the battery is fully charged. It was working fine until I cleaned both filters yesterday, left to dry then used today with them back in and it keeps cutting out when using, usually when using max power. Please help.

My shark rotator cuts out when it swivels like theres a short or something. We have tried to fix it and cant figure iut why other then we turn it and it cuts out will work a second then cut off again. Anyone have this issue or know how to fix it ? We cant get to the wires they seem to be having the issue.

I had a breakthrough with the overheating problem! For ages, I would open the dust cap and hit the central cylinder which would cause some dust to fall out and I would get a few more mins out of the vacuum cleaner before it cut out again. I was pretty much resigned to having to buy another one as the Shark was getting so infuriating. The other day, I hit the central cylinder with a piece of wood and the whole thing fell off! This revealed an inner sanctum which was clogged with dust. I emptied this out and it works like new :) Why they don't tell you to do that in the instructions I don't know... Hope that helps some folks.

Try cleaning all filters, clean hose or any other clog, leave unplugged bout half hour then try turning back on. Just over heated cuz u have a clog somewhere

While vacuuming the brush roller justs stops turning the green light goes out, the headlights stay on and the 3 position handle selector switch starts blinking. Shark is no help at all. Dose anyone have any ideas? Thank you for your help.

My robot runs for about 30 -60 seconds and then shuts off and the a red exclamation mark over "Dock" flashes red, the blue "Dock" button flashes and the blue "Max" light flashes. The cup is empty, it will stop in the middle of the room so an obstacle isnt the issue. I've used this once, this is my second time trying to use it and it constantly turns off. If I pick it up and set it back down it will start again but repeats the stopping evert single time.

My cordless is not switching off . I have to remove battery. When vacuuming it makes sound as though it is struggling to work on carpet mode. Not effectively picking up on wood floor.

The red rocker part that is underneath the hose connector has broken. Now if you take the hose out at the top, or wand and hose out, the part in the bottom back that connects falls out. Can just that one rocker part part be replaced?

When I go to manually rotate the roller, I notice there is alot of resistance on the roller itself. Unable to pull the bottom plate off as well. And the roller is clear of any kind of hair.

mine overheats with 10min of use, and shutoff. its a Shark Navigator Pet Pro Model# ZU62, bought from Kohl's. I had my other one bought 3 years ago from Costco. It still working ok, except that those cheap plastic notches worn down, and does not hold handle well. I hate the designer, when they rely on small plastic notch to hold the handle. They should have used a metal part in that place. otherwise everything else works fine on that. Hoping for at least a similar product I bought Pet series from Kohl's and did not last beyond 3 months. It just kept over heating all the time. I checked hoses, and no obstructions, I did all of above steps, but still overheats.

The spring that locks the wand in place is not working. It seems to be stuck, how can I release this to make it work

Ours would run for a few minutes then shut off. Let it sit for a few minutes and would work again but again stop after a few minutes. The overheating seemed to make sense so I pulled it apart so I could actually see the motor operate. Noticed some sparking inside the motor which would get increasingly worse until motor shut off. Figured it would need a new motor and since it's already 5-8 years old or older would likely just buy a new one. Since I had nothing to lose I pulled the brushes from the motor since this is where the sparks were coming from. Thought I would try to clean them bbn but realized they were not moving freely. They have springs on the back that press them against the armature. Compressed them into the housing a few times and they began to move back and forth as intended. Placed them back into motor and sparking almost totally gone. Reinstalled motor and has been running on the workbenches for 15 minutes without an issue. May have accidentally fixed it.

A few minutes into the second usage and the light for the carpet vs floor mode went out and it seems stuck on floor. Emptied the canister and tried letting it cool down. I now have a vacuum that only does tile.

Mine runs for about 10 seconds and then shuts off and I have to keep restarting it. And there’s no way this thing is overheating within 10 seconds of being turned on.

i cleaned my shark lift=away, but trying to put it back together, the canister will not stick to the wand. what am i doing wrong?

I had this problem too. There was a soda straw caught in the hose, that continued to make it overheat. Make sure you check the hose completely!!
