Safety First! Before you begin, remember that safety is paramount. Always disconnect your washer from the power source before attempting any repairs or diagnostics. This precaution is crucial to prevent electric shock or damage to your appliance.

Understanding Your Washer This guide covers various problems, from water not entering the unit to issues with spinning or leaks. We’ve broken down each problem into three key sections:

  1. Problem: Identifies the specific issue you're experiencing.
  2. Why It Happens: Provides a brief explanation of potential causes.
  3. How to Fix: Offers step-by-step solutions to resolve the issue.

Ready to Tackle the Problem? Armed with this guide, you can approach washing machine troubleshooting with confidence. Let’s dive in and get your washer running smoothly again!

Won’t power up (Touch-pads do not respond when pressed)

Why It Happens?

Your washer may not power up due to issues with the electrical supply, disconnections, or control unit malfunctions.

How to Fix

  1. Power Supply Check: Confirm that the washer is plugged into a working outlet. Check your home's fuse box for any tripped breakers.
  2. Power Reset: Unplug the washer for a minute, then plug it back in. This can often reset the system.
  3. Inspect Power Cord and Filter: Look for any visible damage to the power cord. Check the line filter for disconnections or damage.
  4. Secure Harness Connections: Ensure all wires leading to the Central Control Unit (CCU) are firmly connected.
  5. Control Panel Response Test: Interact with different buttons and settings to check if the control panel is responsive.
  6. Voltage Check: Using a multimeter, test the voltage at the User Interface connector (UIP3). Check for -5V at Pin 1, 0V at Pin 2, and -12V at Pin 3. A deviation indicates a potential issue with the CCU.

Machine Won’t Power Up

Why It Happens?

Power issues can be due to electrical problems, faulty connections, or issues with the control unit.

How to Fix

  1. Verify the unit is plugged into a functional outlet and check for any blown fuses.
  2. Disconnect and then reconnect the power to reset the washer.
  3. Test the continuity of the line cord and line filter.
  4. Inspect the harness connections to the Central Control Unit (CCU).
  5. Reconnect power and check the touchpad/LED assembly by cycling through different settings.
  6. Use a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) or Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM) to check the voltage on the User Interface (UI) Connector UIP3.
    • Pin 1: -5V, Pin 2: 0V, Pin 3: -12V. If the correct voltage is absent and the CCU has power, the CCU may be defective.
  7. Disassemble and inspect the UI, checking connections between the Center and Right Board.

Won't Start Cycle

Why It Happens?

Issues with the door latch, electrical connections, or control panel can prevent the cycle from starting.

How to Fix

  1. Door Latch Inspection: Open and close the door to ensure it's properly latched. The washer won't start if the door isn't securely closed.
  2. Drainage System Check: If the door is locked, manually drain the unit. Open the pump filter (usually at the bottom front) and clear any blockages.
  3. Power Reset and Wiring Check: Disconnect power and then reconnect. Inspect visible wire harness connections for any looseness or disconnections.
  4. Control Panel Functionality Test: Test different cycles and settings on the touch-pad/LED to confirm its responsiveness.

Won't Shut Off

Why It Happens?

This could be due to programming glitches, drainage issues, or a malfunctioning drain pump.

How to Fix

  1. Error Code Diagnosis: Look for any displayed fault/error codes which can indicate specific issues.
  2. Pause/Cancel Reset: Press the pause or cancel button twice to attempt a reset of the system.
  3. Drainage System Inspection: Check the drain hose and pump filter for blockages or kinks.
  4. Power Reset and Pump Check: Unplug the washer, then plug it back in. Listen for the sound of the drain pump to ensure it's working.
  5. Diagnostic Test: If your model has a diagnostic mode, run it to check the Central Control Unit (CCU) and user interface.

Control Won’t Accept Selections

Why It Happens?

The control panel may not respond due to software glitches, blocked drainage, or connection issues.

How to Fix

  1. Initial Reset: Press PAUSE/CANCEL on the touch-pad twice, then try the Power or Control On button.
  2. Drainage System Check: Empty the unit and inspect the drain hose and pump filter for any foreign objects.
  3. Touch-pad/LED Test: Try selecting different cycles and adjusting settings to see if the control panel responds.
  4. Power Cycle: Unplug the washer, then plug it back in to reset.
  5. Harness Connection Inspection: Check for loose or disconnected wires, especially around the control panel.
  6. CCU Diagnostic Test: Run a diagnostic cycle or any regular cycle to check the Central Control Unit's functionality.

Won’t Dispense

Why It Happens?

Dispensing issues can arise from leveling problems, clogs, or motor malfunctions.

How to Fix

  1. Leveling Check: Ensure the washer is perfectly level.
  2. Dispenser Drawer Inspection: Check for any clogs or buildup of detergent.
  3. Power Cycle and Water Connection Check: Unplug the washer and inspect water connections and screens for blockages.
  4. Dispenser Motor and Installation Check: Examine the dispenser motor and its installation for proper alignment and connection.
  5. Harness Connections: Verify all wiring is securely connected.
  6. CCU Diagnostic Test: Run a diagnostic test to assess the Central Control Unit.

Won’t Fill

Why It Happens?

Filling issues can be caused by valve malfunctions, water supply problems, or pressure switch issues.

How to Fix

  1. Inlet Valve Inspection: Check the inlet valves for blockages or damage.
  2. Water Supply Verification: Ensure hot and cold water faucets are fully open.
  3. Power Cycle and Water Connection Check: Disconnect power, then check the water connections and screens inside the unit.
  4. Operating Pressure Switch Test: Inspect the pressure switch for proper operation.
  5. Drain Pump Motor Check: Verify the functionality of the drain pump motor.
  6. CCU Diagnostic Test: Run a diagnostic cycle to check the Central Control Unit.

Overfills

Why It Happens?

Overfilling can occur due to leveling issues, drainage system malfunctions, or valve problems.

How to Fix

  1. Leveling Check: Make sure the washer is level.
  2. Drain System Inspection: Check the pump drain system for any sign of failure.
  3. Operating Pressure Switch Test: Inspect the pressure switch for proper functionality.
  4. Valve Inspection: Examine the valves to see if any are stuck open.
  5. Pressure Switch Hose Check: Look at the pressure switch hose for any damage or disconnections.
  6. Flow Meter Test: Blow air through the flow meter and measure the resistance to verify its operation.
  7. CCU Diagnostic Test: Run a diagnostic cycle to check the Central Control Unit.

Drum won’t rotate

Why It Happens?

The drum may not rotate due to power issues, motor problems, belt malfunctions, or wiring issues.

How to Fix

  1. Power Reset: Unplug the washer or disconnect the power.
  2. Drive Motor Inspection: Check the drive motor for any signs of wear or damage.
  3. Drive Belt Check: Examine the drive belt for any breaks or slipping.
  4. Wiring Connections: Ensure all wire harness connections are secure and intact.
  5. Power Reconnection: Plug in the washer or reconnect power.
  6. MCU Check: Observe the operations of the drive motor in both directions to assess the Motor Control Unit (MCU).

Motor Overheats

Why It Happens?

Overheating can be caused by motor stress, faulty wiring, or drive belt issues.

How to Fix

  1. Power Down: Disconnect power to the washer.
  2. Drive Motor Check: Inspect the motor for any abnormalities or overheating signs.
  3. Wiring Inspection: Verify the integrity of all wire harness connections.
  4. Drive Belt Examination: Look for any issues with the drive belt.
  5. Reconnect Power: Plug in the washer or restore power.
  6. MCU Assessment: Test the functionality of the drive motor through the MCU.

Won't Drain

Why It Happens?

Drainage issues often arise from clogged filters, blocked hoses, or pump malfunctions.

How to Fix

  1. Disconnect Power: Unplug the washer or disconnect power.
  2. Harness Connections: Check all wire harness connections for security and damage.
  3. Drain Pump Inspection: Examine the drain pump for blockages or failures.
  4. Drain Pump Motor Check: Assess the drain pump motor's condition and functionality.
  5. Clear Drain Hose and Filter: Ensure the drain hose and pump filter are free from obstructions.
  6. Restore Power: Reconnect power to the washer.
  7. CCU Test: Conduct a Diagnostic Test or run a cycle to check the Central Control Unit.

Excessive Vibration

Why It Happens?

Vibrations can be due to improper installation, unbalanced loads, or mechanical imbalances.

How to Fix

  1. Shipping System Removal: Confirm all shipping materials are removed.
  2. Installation Review: Check the installation for proper alignment and stability.
  3. Leveling Feet Adjustment: Ensure the leveling feet are properly adjusted and secure.
  4. Floor Stability: Verify the floor is stable and strong enough to support the washer.
  5. Springer/Damper Check: If bumping occurs, inspect the springer/damper installation.

  7. Motor Tightening: Ensure the motor is securely fastened.
  8. Drive Belt Inspection: Check the drive belt for proper tension and condition.

Incorrect Water Temperature

Why It Happens?

Water temperature issues can stem from improper hose connections, water heater problems, or sensor malfunctions.

How to Fix

  1. Power Off: Disconnect power from the washer.
  2. Hose Connection Check: Ensure the inlet hoses are correctly connected (hot to hot, cold to cold).
  3. Water Heater Inspection: Look at the water heater and its wire harness connections.
  4. Water Temperature Sensor: Refer to the manual (page 10) for checking the water temperature sensor.
  5. Reconnect Power: Plug in the washer or reconnect power.
  6. CCU Diagnostic: Run a Diagnostic Test to assess the Central Control Unit.
    • Check if the water inlet hoses are correctly installed.
    • Verify cold water temperature (max. 68°F) and hot water temperature (min. 122°F). Ensure any water boiler is switched on.

what did you find out? ours is doing the same.

Mine I lid lock and just clicking not turning on

I have the same problem?

Bo -

So this happened to us. Sears repair came out. Mind you after we cancelled the appointment because the was rude and assisted I'm charging my credit card before the repairman even came out. Anyways the repairman came out hooked his computer up to it and proclaimed the control board is bad and you can either buy a new one which would be over 500.00 dollars which includes labor. Or buy the maintenance warranty for 200.00 which is good for one year. The codes that were shown were F05 and E02. So we told them nevermind. Week later as we were shopping for a new washer. We stumbled upon a video on a guy basically cleaned the little metal contact switch which causes the lid to lock and unlock. It has two prongs that slide back and forth. If it gets dirty or doesn't have a good contact to the circuit board it will cause this problem. Low and behold it worked. Here is the link to the video. https://youtu.be/nvFrFZYq-GA

I have had a problem with ours that the machine says the cycle has finished but upon inspection it has failed to spin and drain the load. and while having the lid open with the machine off (lights all off) the motor turns on like its going to start spinning but doesn't. when this happens I will press the power button and the machine will give the power off chime and the motor will stop. I then will turn on the washer and set it to drain/spin and it will complete that function. the only thing I can think of is maybe there is a short in the system? if this makes any sense.

Washer runs a normal rinse cycle, will agitate but when the timer gets to the spin cycle it won’t do anything. If I turn the dial to any rinse option it starts right up, but it won’t do anything if I pull the knob out while the timer is on the spin cycle portion of the dial. Wondering if I may have a bad lid switch or dial? It doesn’t make any noises or attempt to do anything, so I’m assuming that since the lid has to be down for the spin cycle to start, that that’s why it won’t start spinning or drain the water. Any suggestions?

I have a model 110 washer, it has started to dance around in spin mode, to the point where the tub is pounding the sides of the washer! It will do this with any size load and empty. It runs great other wise I laid it on its side to look inside, nice and be clean, no parts laying around or broke that I could see! Any idea s? Doug 02\22\21

Kenmore 110 not filling with water properly. When I turn it on, I get one fast blast of water and then it stops. This is followed by a humming sound until I shut water off. Steel braided line is free and clear of any obstructions. Please note: the braided line does NOT have the flood prevention device intact. Water inlet on the machine is free and clear of any obstructions. Any advice on troubleshooting from this point forward is greatly appreciated. ''Thank you ''

Model 110-27612600 is making terrible noises when Agitating & when Spinning Out. Washer was here when I bought Mobile Home in 2018 &. I am guessing maybe the former owner might have bought it when she bought the mobile in 2006, but NOT sure. I do know that the 1st 4 years I lived here Alone, I clean my washer monthly, NEVER Overload it, but the last 8 months my Gentleman Friend has been using washer, & he Not only Overloads it, causing it to go Off-Balance often, & he also never uses the Bleach or Fabric Softener Dispensers & if I can't afford PODS Detergent he Spills Powder Detergent all over inside my washer & NEVER Cleans it up. If I don't do laundry for a while, washer becomes a terrible Dumping Ground for Every Laundry Product Imaginable. This Week it Started Making Noises, AND Today it Sounded Like The Bottom of the Washer was going to Fall Out. I cannot afford to buy a new washer. I am a Senior Citizen on a very small income on my own & have NO $$ set aside for anything beside food & Meds. Help!

I have a Kenmore110 26002010, my washer will do the rinse and spin cycle and will not spin and drain I have to run Spin and Drain manual, I find water in the detergent tray after a wash and find softener in the tray also I believe because it is not rinsing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have Kenmore model 110.20442991 and the wash cycle works fine, it progresses to rinse cycle and then stops as soon as it changes to the rinse cycle. If manually progressed to the spin cycle, spin cycle works fine.

The lid switch appears to be fine to me, and I think it wouldn't spin if the lid switch was bad.

Could it be the timer? It appears to advance to the rinse cycle before it stops, so not sure.

I have a Kenmore top load washer, type 111-05, Model 110.29672800, serial CW4520608. It works, but will not add enough water. It only adds about half the amount needed. Both hot and cold water seem to be flowing just fine, but the machine starts before there is enough water. Can only do small loads even on the "max" level setting
