Power will not turn on when running on the battery

The battery is connected, but the speaker will not turn on.

Battery Protection Mode

The Bose SoundLink Color goes into a battery protection mode if it has not been used for fourteen days or more, in order to preserve the battery. To remedy this, connect the speaker to A/C power mode in order to reactivate the system.

Battery is not charged

Make sure the battery is fully charged and plugged into a working outlet before removing it from the A/C source. This will ensure the battery has an adequate charge to function.

It's recommended to use the power supply originally shipped with the speaker for better charging functionality.

Bad battery

It could just be that you have a bad battery and may need to replace it. You can access Bose SoundLink Color Battery Replacement Guide where you will receive step by step instructions to replace the battery.

Speaker indicates a connection, but there is no audio

Speaker and device show a Bluetooth connection, but there is no audio playing.

Volume Low or Muted

If there is no audio playing through the speaker, the volume on the speaker or device may be too low due to manual or automatic volume change. Check the speaker's volume setting and adjust accordingly. If there is still no audio, check to see if the device's audio is low or muted.

Device Not Connected Properly

There may not be any audio playing because the device isn't paired correctly. Check to see if the speaker and the device are correctly paired via Bluetooth connection.

Bluetooth Has Trouble Connecting

The speaker and the device will not pair correctly.

Software needs an update and/or reset

First, check to see if the speaker is running the latest software version. Go to: Bose Software Update Center to check if your speaker is up to date.

Second, if the speaker is up to date, preform a reset on the speaker and the device.

Third, make sure you are connecting to the correct device in the Bluetooth menu.

Device is Out of Range

The speaker's Bluetooth has a limited range. When attempting to pair the device, make sure that it is within a 6 ft range of the speaker, and not in any pockets.

Too Many Devices Paired with the Audio Device

If there are many devices paired with the audio device, try to remove the other paired devices. The audio device may be attempting to pair with a different device.

When attempting to pair the speaker and the audio device, make sure to select the speaker in the audio device's Bluetooth menu. Be sure that the connection is confirmed.

Bluetooth is not Turned On

Be certain that the Bluetooth device is turned on or enabled. To ensure that the speaker is discoverable, press the Bluetooth button until the indicator blinks blue.

Speaker sound distorted / muffled

The sound quality of the speaker isn't good.

Wi-Fi Connection

Try disabling the Wi-Fi on your device and closing any nonessential apps running in the background, and then try testing the sound quality.

Faulty Auxiliary cord

If the issue persists when using the auxiliary cord, the issue may be with the auxiliary cable. Make sure that you are using a 3.5 mm cord.

Volume Distortion

If the sound is distorted, try lowering the volume on your device and raising it on the speaker.

If the problem persists, you may need to replace one or more of your speakers.

You can access Bose SoundLink Color Speaker Replacement where you will receive step by step instructions to replace the speakers.

If nothing helps, try this:

- Plug soundlink in to wall charger

- Hold down the play/pause button for 15 seconds.

- Then, BEFORE releasing the play/pause button, unplug the charge cord from the unit.

- Release the button,

- Plug the unit back into the wall charger.

- Press the power button, and your unit should power on.

This worked!! What was wrong with the speaker?

Awesome! That manual reset worked perfectly! Thanks!

This worked!!!!

Thank you. Mine had all the symptoms of a bad battery not holding a charge anymore. Doing the manual reset proved that wrong. I would have found out the battery was fine when testing it after removing it from the unit, which would’ve meant a lot of wasted time. :)

Had a “no sound” issue, myself. I held down the play button for around 15 seconds, and Sound Bar went back to normal. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Thanks Jonás! This worked marvelously!

Jonas, I’ ve been using my Bose Sound link speaker with a problem. but recently, if I let the battery run down till it’s totally drained. the speaker won’t react to the wall charger when I try to charge it. I just tried this trick of holding down the play/pause button for 15 seconds & “BINGO” !! it’s started to charge. Great. great suggestion !! thanks!!!

Hello. I keep pushing the bluetooth button on my bose sound link colour, but nothing happens, no blinking light! Did a software update, battery is fully charged. What could be the problem? PS I have a MacBook Pro. Device does not show and is not found either.

I have the same problem. No one seems to have an answer. This thing didn't last very long before the battery crapped out (has to be plugged in to use) and now the Bluetooth light won't come on at all… Thought Bose was a reliable brand, but this thing is garbage.

Jeryd Smith -

What does blue blinking light mean?

Bose has a major problem. So bad, it makes me want to not recommend it. Almost every time I would like to use it, I can get it to pair and say that it is connected, but never get any sound. The few times that I have gotten it to work, I don’t know what I did to make it happen.

When working - it sounds great! But you get so upset trying to make it work you want to just toss it in the trash. I have been on line a hundred times trying to solve this problem. Nothing works.

Omg it worked!! I’ve spent the better part of an hour trying to get this working, thank you so much for posting this!!

The one I have seems to have a loose connection - I suspect that the USB socket has a broken solder joint. Since it is the High Command’s property I have sought permission to open it up and have a look. Meanwhile if I get it to connect and don’t move it at all it is charging and managed to do a software update. If I open it up, do I need to desolder the speakers to get to the other side of the circuit board or will it come out with the speakers attached?

My Bose Color II shows connected on my iphones bluetooth settings, but won't play any audio. Help. Tried pressing the power button for 10seconds (reset). Still not working... whats odd is it's showing another decice with the same exact name but with a "LE" on the first.

THANK YOU! After going through the Bose troubleshooting guide and getting nowhere, I contacted Bose for technical support through chat. After asking me if my wall outlet worked (as if I hadn't made sure of that), I was told I'd have to send it in for repair at a cost of $55. The chat consultant refused to walk me through a reset of any kind because I stated it did not play a tone when I pushed the power button. I found your directions, held the multi use button for 15 seconds, unplugged it, let go of the button, plugged it back in and pushed the power button. It played it's tone and said "battery low." I seem to be back to charging. Thanks to you! No thanks to Bose. Disappointing, I thought they had better customer service than that.

I did the all the above options and absolutely nothing happens. Battery?
