Blue Screen of Death

Laptop receives the blue screen of death during usage

Use a System Restore

A system restore can roll your operating system back to a previous state before you started receiving the blue screen of death. To use a system restore in Windows 10, hit the start button and type “system restore.” From here, choose “Reset this PC.” This will give you the option to reset the PC by selecting the files you wish to keep, and then completely reinstalling Windows 10, or to “Go Back to an Earlier Build” which could revert your PC back to an earlier state before it started receiving the blue screen of death.

Update Drivers

Updating the drivers for your hardware can prevent bugs and crashes. To install the latest drivers, navigate to your Control Panel, and type into the “Search Control Panel” tab “Drivers.” This will bring up an option to update drivers. From here, you can view all devices, and whether or not there is an available update to that device’s drivers.

Scan for Malware

Malware and viruses can sometimes infect certain areas of your computer and cause blue screens of death. Use your specific antivirus software and run a full scan of your computer to search for any malicious software.

Overheating issue

If your computer is turning itself off during use, this could be caused by the computer overheating. Overheating can be caused by dust and other materials clogging up the fans and vents in your computer. To fix this issue, use a compressed air duster to clean out the fans and vents. Simply spray into the vents and fans, dislodging any materials stuck in these areas.

Weak Battery

To check if the battery is the source of the issue, remove the battery if possible. Next, plug in your AC adapter (charger) to the computer. If the computer boots up normally while plugged in, then the battery will need to be replaced.

Display Issue

Connect an external monitor to your computer to check if your laptop display is the reason your screen is not turning on. If the monitor displays normally, check your display settings within the settings of Windows to ensure that everything looks normal. If so, you may have to replace the built-in screen on your laptop.

Audio sounds distorted

Audio does not sound normal while using the laptop

Update Drivers

Sometimes outdated drivers can distort the audio on your laptop. To install the latest drivers, navigate to your Control Panel, and type into the “Search Control Panel” tab “Drivers.” This will bring up an option to update drivers. From here, update all drivers that have to do with audio, sound, etc.

Replace Speakers or Audio Jack

To figure out whether the distorted audio is coming from your audio jack or your laptop speakers, plug in headphones through the audio jack and test the sound. If the audio is distorted, then you may need to replace your audio jack. If the sound is normal when listening with headphones, the speakers on your laptop may need to be replaced.

Laptop is frozen and unresponsive

Restart your Laptop

To restart your laptop when it is frozen, simply hold the power button for a few seconds until the display turns black and begins to restart the booting process.

Laptop Overheated

An overheating issue could result in the computer freezing up and becoming unresponsive. To fix this, use a compressed air duster to clean out the fans and vents. Simply spray into the vents and fans, dislodging any materials stuck in these areas.

Frozen Application

If the application you are currently using is frozen, hold down ALT-CTRL-ESC together to bring up the task manager. From here, simply close the application that is causing the issue by clicking on it, and then selecting the End Task option.

I have found that smetime the asus X205TA fails to boot. The light indicator is on which suggests that it is charged. If I hold in the power key for about 30 second until the light goes off I can then press the power key again and it boots
