Phone will not turn on

When attempting to turn on the device with the power button, it is unresponsive. This can be caused by faulty battery, loose ribbon cables in a recently replaced battery or blockage in the charging port.

The device’s charging port is blocked with lint or dust

  • If your charging port seems to be clogged, try to clear any blockage with a toothpick and plug in the charger for at least 15 minutes once all blockage is clear.

The device is stuck in a bootloop

  • To activate Recovery Mode, follow these steps:
  • Press and hold the Power Button and Volume Up Button simultaneously for 10 seconds.”
  • The Mi logo should appear; Release the Power Button, but continue to hold the Volume Up Button”
  • Release the Volume Up Button  when the Recovery Mode screen appears
  • Use the Volume Buttons to select ‘Reset’ and the Power Button to confirm.”
  • Wait until the device completely resets and if it recovers it may be that the device was on the entire time, just stuck on a black boot screen and needed to reset

Android OS is corrupted

  • Because these apps are specifically designed for technical support for android devices, using this app on a computer to reboot your phone is a safe tool
  • To utilize this tool, follow these steps:
  • Download and install the Android Recovery software on your computer.”
    • Select the app corresponding to your type of laptop, whether it be a Windows or Mac”
  • Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable”
  • Open the Android Recovery software on the computer and wait for your phone to connect to the app
  • Follow onsite instructions

The battery cannot hold a charge

  1. If the device is unresponsive, there is a big chance that the battery may be compromised.
  2. To Replace the battery, follow these steps, also outlined in [http://#|this guide]:
  3. Order a battery that corresponds to your specific Xiaomi A2
  4. Using the tools provided, carefully remove the screen and place it aside.
    • Be very cautious not to rip or tear the ribbon connector, which is the black, paper thin strip connecting the screen and device
  5. After the screen is unplugged and set aside, locate the battery (black square in the middle of the device) and unplug its connector from the device (at the top right hand corner of the battery)”
  6. Using the pliars given to you in the kit, gently pull on the black tabs on the top of the battery
  7. Once the battery is removed, place in the replacement and connect it to the device”
  8. Reconnect the screen and screw it back in”
  9. Charge your new battery for at least 30 min before attempting to turn on”

Phone Can’t Download Apps from Google Play Store

When attempting to download an app, error may occur and app is not downloaded. This most likely a software issue where there is not enough space for the app or the network may not be able to download the app.

Not enough storage space

  • If your device is low on space, it can stop apps downloading & installing. Try clearing some data or check if your cache is full!
  • To clear your data and cache, follow these steps:
  • Head to your “Settings.
  • Scroll down to “Application Manager.”
  • Select “Application Manager.”
  • Find “Google Play Store” from the selection and pick it.
  • Finally, choose “Clear Cache” or “Clear Data."“

Google Play Store is not up to date

  • In some cases, by not having the latest version of the Google Play Store Application, certain functionalities will not work.
  • To update, follow these steps:
  • Open the Google Play app on your Xiaomi smartphone.
  • Select the Menu button located at the top left side of your screen.
  • Scroll down to the Settings option.
  • Navigate to About and select the Play store version.
  • An update will begin if available in your country.

When the phone turns on the screen doesn’t progress past the Android One or Mi logo

An Android OS partition is corrupted

When you have to restore or access partitions of the phone when it won’t properly boot

  • Hold the power button and turn off the device, wait for the phone to shut down completely.
  • Once off, press and hold the power and volume up button until the splash screen appears.
  • Once again press and hold the power button and press the volume up button once until a Linux command screen appears. If this does not work keep trying until successful.
  • Touch screen navigation is not possible here, navigation is only possible by the volume buttons. The up and down will move accordingly on the list, the power button is to confirm the toggled action.
  • Select Reboot System Now, this will take you to the android one animation and then into the regular Android operating system.

Recovery partition is not present or not working as intended

Using your computer to run commands on the Android OS to remedy some issues

  • Hold the power button and turn off the device, wait for the phone to shut down completely.
  • Once off, press and hold the power and volume down button until the splash screen appears.
  • Fastboot requires software from the Android SDK, and different USB drivers for Windows computers.
  • Connect your device to a laptop to a computer that has the ROM you would like to install into the phone.

SOLUTION: You have to get into recovery mode by pressing power and volume up at the same time while the phone is NOT on the charger. IF this does not get you into the recovery mode and the loop continues, just continue holding down those 2 buttons for as long as necessary (took me 3 minutes) as the loop continues and eventually the battery discharges completely and phone restarts into recovery mode. It doesn't matter if you get the "no command" or recovery screen afterwards since your phone has now broken out of loop and will start normally!

Straight up want to say massive thanks for this. Second time I’ve had to do this - but forgot how I did it the first time. Perseverance with the holding down is the key. Respect for doing that test in the face of seemingly endless loops, Dominik! (FIY, I ended up with a dead looking android character, and the ‘no command’ prompt … but as Dominik said, the loop was broken, and plugging into the charger let it once again start up as normal)

@xataraxiax I’m facing the same issue now. I tried holding power + vol up keys but it never went to ‘no command‘ or recovery mode. I also tried pressing vol up + vol down simultaneously when the android logo was seen it was stuck on the android logo for some time then switched off

Wow! I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't posted this. A big thank you from the universe for being a kind person.

I seem to have a mechanical problem rather than a software problem. One third of the touch screen has gone dead. That is; the figures3,6,9 & the check box below (in a vertical line on right side of screen) do not register when touched.

My PIN includes one of those numbers, so I cannot open the phone to recover or access any of the memory/content.

How can I open my phone?

Robert - Replica

Use a mouse with an OTG adapter.

Dominik Stunja  My screen has stuck into “no command”. Nothing is happening. I have waited for more than 10 mins and again it got stuck into “androidone” screen. What to do?

Manish Paul - Replica

I can't clip the cover of the screen to the base since I have changed a battery that has inflate. The screen doesn't clip to the rest even after inverting the clips to see if they were defective. It's only the right side that doesn't clip.

Max Hof - Replica

Mine has the same problem, it turns on, on its own the shuts down immediately. So its left between a boot loop of a few seconds pf redmi logo and few seconds and black screen. The reboot option doesn't work as well. After managing to get the to the recovery page that is pressing and holding the volume up button and power button, it proceeds with a new loop this time showing recovery mode then turning off again. Its been with the technician two days now and still hasn't fixed it.
