Xbox Does Not Turn On

The Xbox is not powering on.

Power cable fault

Make sure the power cable is securely plugged in the console and the wall outlet.

Internal power supply issue

Your Xbox has an internal protection in case of a power surge that cuts power to the console. To reset that protection :

  1. Unplug the cable from the wall outlet
  2. Wait 10-20 seconds
  3. Plug the cable back in the wall
  4. Turn on console

Other issues

If the light on the console turns on and stays on, follow the no video output troubleshoot.

Faulty power supply

If the issue was not resolved by any of the above steps, your Xbox might need to have the IR blaster replaced.

Faulty Power Switch on IR Blaster

If the issue was not resolved by any of the above steps, your Xbox might need to have the power supply replaced.

Faulty motherboard

If the problem persists, consider replacing your motherboard.

Loud Fan

The Xbox turns on but emits a constant scraping noise from the inside.

Bad ventilation

The first step in eliminating problematic fan noises being emitted from the console is to relocate the console to a well ventilated area. If the fan noise does not subside, a diagnosis of the fan component is recommended.

Foreign object in fan

The Xbox One S Digital Edition fan must be inspected for dirt accumulation. Cleaning is advised If there is visible dirt accumulation within the fan. Follow the fan replacement guide, use compressed air to get rid of dust and dirt sitting on the fan or in the console and see if the noise stops. (Be careful to not spin the fan when applying compressed air as it might induce a current in the system and damage the motherboard. Hold the fan in place or disconnect it when cleaning).

Dislodged bearings

If the noise does not subside after cleaning, the fan bearings may be malfunctioning and must be replaced in order for the console fan to serve its ventilating function.

Bent top chassis piece

If the noise persists, the chassis might have to be replaced.

No Video Output

The Xbox is on and running, but the expected Xbox visuals are not on the TV or monitor.

Restarting

First things first , turn your Xbox off by holding the power button for 10 seconds, then turn it back on. If nothing changes, keep reading.

Wiring issue

Most commonly, the HDMI is not plugged in correctly. Check that the HDMI cable is firmly plugged into both Xbox and TV. Also check that the HDMI cable is connected to the “out to TV” port on the Xbox One S. Finally confirm that your TV is on the correct source channel, matching the port the HDMI is connected to your TV. Example (HDMI1 vs. HDMI2).

AVR setup

If you are using an audio-video receiver(AVR) adaptor, turn off the TV, AVR, and Xbox. Then turn everything back on in this order:

  1. TV
  2. Once TV is displaying, turn on AVR
  3. Xbox

Then switch the input source of AVR off of the Xbox HDMI then switch back to it. Lastly, reset the AVR and proceed to use your Xbox.

Faulty Motherboard

If the problem persists, consider replacing your motherboard.

Unable to Download New Content or Games

New content and games cannot be added to the console

Lack of free space

Check the internal storage usage in the settings of your Xbox. If the remaining space is smaller than what you are trying to download, you will need to remove other games or add an external storage system.

Software is not up to date

Some content might require the Xbox to be running the latest update in order to be downloaded. Update your system by pressing the Xbox symbol at the top of the controller and selecting the System > Settings > Updates & Downloads. Try again after the update completed.

Faulty hard drive

If the issue persists, the hard drive might need to be replaced.

Xbox Powers Down Unexpectedly

While in use the Xbox turns off without being told to or the power button being pressed.

Overheating issues

This usually happens because the Xbox is overheating due to a variety of different issues. First, make sure that the Xbox’s ventilation system, the various slits in the plastic case, is not covered with any objects that would impede airflow into the Xbox.

Settings issue

This could also be a settings issue, press the Xbox symbol at the top of the controller and select the System > Settings > Power, and then select the Turn off or restart button.

Other issues

If the Xbox continues to power off while in use this could be a problem with the Power Supply and it should be replaced.

My xbox will turn on like normal but then not show up on my TV, so then I try to turn it off from the on console power button, but the light is still on for 30 seconds while making the sound of turning on even though I am turning it off, then I try to turn it on with my controller, but my controller doesn't work when I hold the button on it, so I try resyncing it but only my controller is flashing and my xbox is not so my controller isn't connected to it somehow, I then I unplug my console and hold the button and such while unplugged then plug it back in and hold the button for 10 seconds but it still doesn't show up on my TV, does anybody else have this exact problem, someone help pls

Did you ever find a solution to this? This exact thing is happening to me

My Xbox one S all digital randomly disconnects and reconnects to my controller. I have 1 wired and 2 wireless controllers. The wired controller disconnects. My series 2 controller is up to date and so is my console. And also disconnects I already tried to reconnect my controller and still keeps disconnecting. My Xbox one controller also disconnects even when I have it plugged into the Xbox or an outlet. I called Xbox support and we ran all the test and even put my Xbox back to factory settings and still no luck. They said that it could be the motherboard Bluetooth connectivity. I was wondering? Would buying a new motherboard be easy to install? Or would I need to solder connections to it? Thank you in advance.

Can somebody help me? Why is my xbox so slow and I can't even play some games because as soon as I got into a match (like in R6) it automatically quits from it? Is it because its old or what?
