The Battery Runs Out Fast
Your tablet’s 100% charge does not last more than a couple of hours.
Apps in Background
Multiple apps open at the same time can drain your battery faster. In order to close the apps in the background, from the home screen, tap Apps. Go to Settings > Applications > Running Services. Tap the application you would like to close ( if the app does not appear, tap Show Cached Processes, and tap the application). Then, tap Stop. If a System Service note appears, go through it and tap OK. The application should be closed now. Repeat for all the applications.
Power Settings Draining Battery
If your device is experiencing short battery life, the change of one of these settings may improve this issue:
To conserve battery life you can reduce backlight brightness and backlights timeout. From the home screen, swipe down the Status Bar. Tap Settings > Display. Tap and drag Brightness slider to the lowest comfortable level (if you would like the device to automatically adjust the brightness, check Auto).
Tap Screen Timeout > Tap the lowest comfortable screen timeout setting.
Do not use live wallpapers, these may reduce battery significantly. To change wallpaper, scroll from Settings to and tap Wallpaper> Choose a static image > tap Set as a Wallpaper.
The use of WI-Fi can extend your battery life significantly. However, leaving your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location settings on when they are not in use can drain your battery faster. Swipe down the Status bar, tap to turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. To exit, press Home key.
Leaving GPS settings on when not in use will drain your battery faster. To disable GPS, tap Location and Security. Tap to uncheck Use GPS Satellites.
Turning off vibration can improve battery life. From the Settings screen, scroll to and tap Sounds and Notifications. Tap Vibrations. Tap the Vibrate when ringing, Vibration Feedback, and Keyboard vibration switches to OFF.
Lastly, Samsung provides different battery save modes that you can activate as needed. To do so, Scroll to and tap Battery > Power Saving Mode > Tap switch to ON > tap the back key. Another option is to turn on Ultra Power Saving Mode (this setting will apply a grayscale theme, reduce the number usable apps, turn off Mobile Data when the screen is off, and turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth configurations.) To leave Ultra Power Saving mode Off press the Home key.
Following these configuration your device should improve the battery life.
Software Not Updated
Usually, if there is a new software available, the previously installed update will cause your battery to drain faster, and the new one will improve your battery life. In order to check if there is software updates available for your tablet, from the home screen, swipe down the Status bar > Settings > System > System Update > Update Now. if a system update is available, follow the prompts to install the update. If not, the device software is up to date.
Charger Not Working Properly
Connect the Samsung Galaxy tab to its charger and see if the charging icon displays. If the charging icon does not display, refer to the Troubleshooting The Samsung Galaxy Tab is not Charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is not Playing Audio Through Headphones
You're playing music and videos on your Galaxy Tab with headphones and no sound is coming out.
Bad Headphones/Speaker
If there is no sound coming from your headphones, your headphones may be bad. Try plugging your headphones into other devices or plugging other headphones into your Galaxy Tab A 10.1 to ensure it is an issue with the Tab.
Tablet Needs Soft Reset
If no sound is coming out, your tablet may need to be reset. Press and hold the power button until the tablet turns off. Release the power button and wait a few seconds to turn the tablet back on. Hold down the power button to turn the tablet back on and turn up the volume to check the sound.
Software Needs Updating
If your software is not up to date, your device may have issues producing sound through headphones. To update your software, swipe down on the status bar > System > System Updates > Update Now.
Bad Audio Jack
If the audio is still not playing through headphones, try replacing the audio jack.
The Rear Camera Flash Light Won’t Turn On
Your flashlight is not turning on when you try to take pictures or when you need to use the lantern feature.
Software issue
If your software is not up to date, your device may have issues producing sound through headphones. To update your software, swipe down on the status bar > System > System Updates > Update Now.
Broken LED Flash or Wire
Your LED light or its wire connections could be faulty. See our motherboard guide for where those components are.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Not Charging
There’s no sign of the Tablet getting a charge or it charges slowly.
Dead/Faulty Battery
Verify if your tablet can power on. Press and hold the Power Key. If your Samsung Galaxy does not turn on, connect the original charger to your device. After a few minutes try to turn on the device. If this does not work, hold the power button down for sixty seconds. If your device is not turning on, your battery could be damaged. If your tablet overheats while charging, and later, the battery is still without charge, you may need a battery replacement. Refer to “How can I replace my battery” guide.
Faulty Charger
Verify that the charger you are using is compatible. If the charger is not the same voltage, amps, and type as your original charger, your battery can get damaged.
Faulty Charging Port
Before proceeding to a charging port replacement, make sure you try different compatible chargers. Verify that the port is not loose, and stays plugged in by itself. If not, your charging port might have an internal damage. Refer to the “How can I replace my charging port” guide.
The Screen is Unresponsive
You’re trying to interact with the screen but nothing is happening.
Dirty Screen
An unresponsive touch screen may mean your screen is wet or has too much residue. Make sure to clean your screen with a dry cloth.
Tablet Needs Soft Reset
If your screen is unresponsive, try holding down the power button until the tablet turns off. Release the power button, wait a few seconds, and hold down the power button to turn the power back on.
Screen Needs Replacing
You may have a bad screen and it may need replacing.
Motherboard Needs Replacement
If the screen is unresponsive, your motherboard might need replacement.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is Not Playing Audio From Speakers
You’re playing music and videos from your Galaxy Tab without headphones and no sound is coming out of the speakers.
All Sounds Turned Off From the Accessibility Settings Menu
Be sure that “Turn Off All Sounds” is UNCHECKED. This option is found in the Hearing Settings.
Obstructed Path
Check to see if there is anything blocking the speakers. Dirt may build up over time. Swap with a q-tip or blow gently into the speaker to remove any blockage.
Broken Speaker
The speaker may be faulty or you could have bad connections. See the motherboard guide for where the speakers and their connections are.
Software issue
If your software is not up to date, your device may have issues producing sound through speakers. To update your software, swipe down on the status bar > System > System Updates > Update Now.

Not super helpful. Does not help out with why my Tab A thinks it is an S7, does not help me figure out why the tablet keeps moving things from external to internal then losing them because of no room, etc. Samsung tablets used to be good, but these new ones are terrible

My 10.5” samsung tablet is connected to a Logitech folio keyboard. The “ key comes up as @ and vice versa. How can I fix this? This is the second logitech keyboard that I have had and had the same problem with this until the keyboard started really playing up with most of the keys not working and was therefore replaced by the retailer but this problem continues.

My SM-T580 is not charging. I removed the back panel and tested the conductivity of the charging cable and it is OK. The circuit is fine, from the cable up to the motherboard, I tested both positive and negative leads.
If I try to charge it while turned on, there is no sign of charging. If I do it with the tablet off, I get a battery sign for few seconds, then dissapears, the screen lights again, with nothing showing and then turns off and stays like that.
If I try to turn it on while the cable is connected to power, it will not turn on. But it will turn on just fine with the cable out of the power adapter.
I charged the battery separatelly, with a charger and it holds charge just fine.
If I leave it connected to the power, it will not charge wether turned on or off.

I bought this Samsung Tab A because I had the old model and it was fine but this new model is rubbish, it switches off for no reason I've done all the things I've read about to fix it with no luck , if it wasn't for this pandemic it would have gone back months ago but I am taking it back now because I can't use it.

Samsung tap a is problem wifi
winmaw htwe - Replica
The two things I would try for wifi problems is :
1. goto settings and turn off / on wifi . I have had that solve connection problems many times.
2. turn off / on the tablet .
I also ran into an interesting problem with the micro SD card. It developed a format fault of some sort which would cause the Tab A to restart on it’s own. I found this out only by starting a complete backup including backing up the SD card on a laptop which reported a problem with the card under Windows 10. After backing up and reformatting the card, the Tab A did not have the auto reboot problem any more.
James Preston -
Thanks for posting this troubleshooting guide. I have over the years I have had customers reboot their system to solve problems. I too of course have rebooted to solve problems but with educated guessing that the reboot would reset whatever was wrong. New to Android troubleshooting I was surprised that rebooting solved ZERO sound on two separate sm-t280s I was working on replacing broken screens.
