Will Not Turn On

Your laptop will not power on.

Defective Power Adapter

If you have a defective power adapter, it will not charge the battery and will only allow your laptop to run until the battery runs out. This is most likely a result of a break somewhere in the cable. To test whether the issue is the power adapter or the battery, your best bet is to borrow another power adapter of the same model or use another power adapter of a similar rate. Try charging your device with the alternate adapter, and if the battery charges, your original power adapter is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Faulty Battery

A defective battery will cause your laptop to only be able to run if it is plugged in. Attempting to run your laptop only on battery power will cause it to shut off immediately and will not power on until it is charged. If this is the case, your battery needs to be replaced. The following link offers instructions on how to replace the battery for this device. /BATTERY REPLACEMENT LINK/

Unresponsive or Frozen Screen

Screen display is stuck and will not respond to commands.

Frozen Blank Screen

Sometimes, a simple reboot of your device will fix minor problems caused by low-level errors, hardware malfunction, or driver crashes. In the case of a frozen screen, Windows might have reached a state where it doesn’t know how to recover, so it halts, showing a blank screen. If the device does not start an automatic reboot, you can do this by holding the power down to force shutdown of the device. After the device is completely turned off, turn the device on again by pressing the power button.

Driver has Crashed

If a simple reboot does not fix the problem, your driver might have crashed, and Windows is frozen. To fix this, you will need to do a factory reset. This needs to be done while the device is turned off. First, press the power button to turn it on, while its booting, click F8 and hold it until the Windows Advanced Boot Options pops up. Select “Repair Your Computer” and hit “enter”. After selecting the preferred keyboard language, click “next”. The user may be prompted to login as an administrator, if so proceed to do so. Select “System Restore” or “Startup Repair” (whatever option is available) at the System Recovery Options. After, follow the wizard instructions to complete the process.

Poor Or No Audio Output

Sound is either coming out low quality/distorted or not at all.

Audio is Disabled

No audio output from your device could be as a result of disabled speakers. In this case, you simply need to re-enable your audio. To do this, go to Device Manager, click on “sound, video and game controllers”. If your audio has any issues, you should see a list of errors as yellow icons.

Corrupt or Outdated Driver File

Re-installing the driver will fix most of the problems experienced with the device as the original driver installed is being updated frequently by the manufacturer to fix bugs and improve efficiency. In the case of poor or no audio output from your device, an outdated or corrupt driver might be the issue and the driver needs to be re-installed. To install a new driver, visit the driversupport.com and go ASUS drivers for Windows. Click the download link and a window will open, click "Save File" to download the software. Click "Yes" on the system dialog window to confirm your installation and follow the installation wizard to start optimizing.

Faulty Speakers

After attempting and failing to solve the issue by updating the driver, you should consider checking your speakers for any hardware malfunctions and consider replacing them. To replace the speakers on your device, follow the (guide).

Unresponsive Trackpad

Trackpad is slow, overly sensitive, or won't respond to touch.

Slow or Sensitive Trackpad

If the trackpad is slow to respond, or is overly sensitive, your trackpad settings might need adjusting. To do this, first ensure that the trackpad is actually turned on. To do this, press the ‘Fn’ key and the ‘F9’ key on your keyboard at the same time. If this does not work, you can assume that the trackpad is on, but its responsiveness is very slow. This can be because of the Smart Gesture software, which is a smart touchpad driver that comes with the original settings of your trackpad. To adjust the responsiveness of the trackpad, you will need to disable some of the features of the Smart Gesture software. To do this, go to the device settings and uncheck all of the gestures.

Defective Trackpad

If the trackpad still seems to be unresponsive, it more than likely means that the trackpad might have to be replaced. If you do not want to do this, other suggestions include purchasing a USB mouse for your device. The following is a link to an ASUS Transformer T100TAR trackpad replacement guide. /TRACKPAD REPLACEMENT EXTERNAL LINK/

USB Jacks not Reading Devices

USB devices are not being read by the computer upon being plugged in.

USB Device not Visible

To make sure the device recognizes a USB device plugged in, you can use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes. To do this, click “start” then click “run”. Type “devmgmt.msc” and click “OK” when the device manager pops up. In the Device Manager, highlight your computer by clicking on it. Click “action” and then click “scan for hardware changes”. Check to see if the USB device is working. If the USB device is working, then you’re finished. If not, then continue below to the alternate solutions.

Hardware Malfunction

Sometimes, a simple restart of your device will fix minor problems caused by low-level errors or hardware malfunction. To do a simple reboot, unplug the USB device, click “start”, and click the arrow next to “shut down”. Other power options will pop up--click “restart”. The computer will take a few minutes to restart. After the computer has restarted, plug the USB device in again. If the device works, you’re finished. If not, continue on to the next solution.

USB Controller is Disabled

The system on a device might turn off specific USB ports to save power. In this situation, unplug the USB device, and click “start” then “run”. Type “devmgmt.msc”, and click “OK”. Click on “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”. Right click on the first USB controller and click “uninstall” to remove it. Repeat this step until all USB controllers are uninstalled. Restart the computer and Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes. Plug your USB device in to reinstall it again.
