How to replace USB-C port?

My charging port has become loose and requires moving the cable or holding the phone at an awkward angle to charge. I've checked, it happens no matter what cable I use.

How would I go about replacing the port to ensure charging is reliable?

Thanks

Hi Alex,

You're actually lucky with regard to your charging port in that your phone is one of the very few that has the port itself alone on a flex cable, making it a very straight-forward replacement that won't affect anything else in the phone. Well, that assumes you take apart the phone and put it back together correctly and without damaging anything in the process.

As I mentioned, the port itself is on a long flex cable that runs under the battery to the motherboard. You can find replacement parts on all the big sites like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress, but here's an example that came up on my cursory search.

I didn't find any iFixit-style guides to doing that repair, but I ran across one for the Nord 2 non 5G model that's very similar and will give you the outlines of the procedure. It's in Spanish but the Google Chrome web browser's language translation makes it very usable.

I'd suggest you start out by following the iFixit guide to replacing the battery, followed by the daughter board replacement guide; that should get you at least 90% of the way to being able to swap out the charging port flex cable assembly; using the first guide I mentioned as an example should get you the rest of the way.

@jens77381 Of course, as with anything there's always a chance of getting a crappy part that doesn't work like it's supposed to, but in general I'd say I've had pretty good luck with my purchases whether they've been from Amazon, eBay or AliExpress. You'll probably find the better quality items on Amazon plus you can read reviews, but you can save a lot buying from AliExpress at the expense of wait times and sometimes lower quality. eBay is somewhere in the middle; basically you tend to find middle-of-the-road quality, prices and shipping times.

All in all, I tend to go for the more inexpensive parts when I have the luxury of waiting for them to ship from China, then from eBay if I don't want to wait quite that long, and finally Amazon if I'm in a hurry and don't mind paying more.

Of course, with a part like this that's not expensive I might tend to go for the fast shipping but sometimes I just say what the heck and go ahead and order it from China if I have the time.
