iPhone not receiving a signal
Hello, can anyone help. My son has an IPhone SE refurbished purchased 2.5 months ago. It has stopped receiving a signal via SIM card, carrier said there is nothing wrong with the SIM as it’s fine in other phones, Apple have said it’s a fault of the phone. I have been told it’s possibly the IC that’s gone wrong but I am shocked it hasn’t lasted very long, the company I purchased from offer warranty but not covering IC as it’s accidental damage, I fail to see this as they haven’t even looked at the phone. Any ideas thanks

Thanks, I have done an update. Checked IMEI and it says it clean. I was suspicious when the company said the phone has been dropped and caused the IC to fail. I have dropped my own phone numerous times and it has never failed anything internally. Sons phone does have a protective cover on. I have threatened them with trading standards and they told me to go ahead and tell them then they cut my call off. Citizens Advice had advised to get the phone looked at locally with a report to fault then send this and a template letter to the Phone Company stating what’s wrong asking them to
Pay or replace, if I don’t hear within 7 days to proceed with small claims court to retrieve money. ☹️

@jules80 Just to reply to a statement in your comment; You said you have dropped your phone numerous times without it causing issues. From the iPhone X and up, the logic board is layered and the X and XS were especially prone to board separation errors caused by the device being dropped!
A drop can absolutely be the cause for a failing IC, I’ve seen it many times. Todays chips are BGA chips and are much, much more susceptible to damage due to an accidental drop.
I’ve had IC / component failures from drops way back to the 6 series. I don’t do or see much older than that.

@geirandersen sorry I am new to this ifxit.com, wasn’t sure how to reply. My son hasn’t dropped his phone, I have my own phone but he hasn’t dropped the one with the suspected IC failure. Under Consumer Rights Act the company should cover repair bills unless proven it has been misused. This isn’t the case as son had it 2 months didn’t drop it or misuse it and left it home during the day only used at home in evening. As it was a refurbished phone could it be a possibility it was starting to fail before we purchased the phone and it has just been sold on as a “pristine refurb”.

@jules80 We have the same laws here in Norway (though other names of course), but any failures that’s not caused by user must be either repaired or replaced. This is for 2 years after purchase (new devices) and a few months (refurbished devices).

Who's to say the phone wasn't dropped by the previous owner before it was 'refurbished'?. Personally I wouldn't buy one from these companies. I had one to replace a screen on and when I opened it up plates and screws that were supposed to be over connectors were missing. I even messaged the company and told them but got no reply. Just scammers.
