Ann Blaser, Does the camera accept a charge? Is the charging done via the same port as the USB is connected? (It’s been a fair while since I worked on a PowerShot.) The more information you can provide, the easier it is for us to help correctly. How to ask a good question on iFixit.
It could be a bad USB port on the camera, which would need replacing. If you take a picture with the camera onto a memory card, then pull the card and put only the card into a computer, are the pictures there?
