Can I repair my audio hardware on HP Pavilion 15-ab271sa?

I thought at first that this was a software problem as Win10 had just updated but I can find no way to get B&O audio system working and, for example, iTunes gives me an error on startup. Any help would be appreciated. Is the hardware on the MB or on a separate board? I can’t find any info on t’Interweb about this failure. None of the suggested fixes for software problems has solved the problem

The machine will beep on HP test but nothing else. I've been through all of the various possibilities . There's error exclamtion marks on the device manager and no possibility of reverting to to previous driver. I waas thinking of putting a new SSD in and running Xubuntu to see if *that* could find and use the hardware. I've had a quick poke at the BIOS but that's pretty complicated and I'm yet to get through all the possibilities. The machine was bought new in 2016 (I think).

Hi @david_walland ,

Looking at the maintenance and service guide for the laptop, taken from this webpage there is no separate audio board in the laptop, so it must be an audio IC (Realtek?) on the motherboard

Is the audio working otherwise OK in the laptop?

If not, have you checked the status of the sound controller in Device Manager? Right click on the Windows Start button and click on the Device Manager link.

Just verifying that you have checked in Control Panel to see if Bang& Olufsen control panel is there? Type control panel in the taskbar search box, select Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound, and then select the Bang& Olufsen if there.

Was it working OK before the update?

Try rolling back the update and check if it works again

@david_walland

I have no problems when clicking on the links.

Here they are below

manual : http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04...

support page : https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-...

Alternatively search for HP Pavilion 15-ab271sa manual to get to the support page. Use the HP site and not 3rd party.

Here's the audio drivers for the laptop. Click on Choose different OS, then click on Select Operating System and select Windows and then click on select version and click on Win 10 64-bit then click on Change. Click on All drivers > Driver Audio (1) to get to the download link.

Mostly in BIOS if there is an audio option it is to either enable or disable so that would mean a red cross in Device Manager if disabled, not a yellow exclamation mark.

I don't know whether the problem is actually associated with the Win10 update, as I seldom use sound, only when watching a TV program catch up. I'm hearing impaired and (like so many folk with hearing problems) don't like unnecessary sound and keep it mostly turned off.

It was certainly working in April.

PS both those links give 404 not found when I checked them

go to the HP support download website and navigate to your units driver page. Find the latest audio drivers and install the.

The windows update may have replaced them. My old HP has a specific audio driver that causes audio issues if it is not loaded.
