I replaced the LCD on my iPhone 5. The screen is still black. Tried resetting it and unplugging the battery and re-attaching the battery. I think I may have broken a resister (or two) on the mainboard. Is this hard to fix?

iTunes says it finds the phone, but it stops when it asks to acknowledge on the iPhone and there is no way I can put anything in on the iPhone.

After you've ruled out needs hard reset, bad LCD (try with your old cracked one), and no power (iTunes will detect), then you are looking at backlight problem.
Most of the time in your situation, you have a refurbished screen where the small piece of tape that should cover the backlight flex on the new screen has come off. When you did your final install of the new screen, the open solder connections on the backlight flex will touch ground metal of the frame and this will burn a backlight filter on the board near the LCD connector. If you pull the sticker around the LCD connector, you may be able to see the burned filter---this is the component that needs to be replaced.
No it is not easy as DIY unless you have experience with microsoldering. However, in the hands of a microsolderer, it is very straightforward to work with these tiny clearances using the right equipment. If you need a professional, you may follow the link to my iFixit Pro profile, iPad Rehab.

Jessa, Thanks for the info. I do have access to micosoldering. I first purchased a replacement screen and tried replacing it on the iPhone 5, it did power on a couple of times. I had problems putting the screws in so I reattached the screen a couple times, then the screen was black. I returned this first screen and got a new one, I was careful, hooked it and tried powering it on, still the 2nd screen is black... no life. I suspect having clobbered the main-board. Is the LCD filter on the main board?

I'm surprised that you didn't mention earlier that this phone has had full immersion exposure to liquid with two bright red indicators and corrosion everywhere. Water damage changes everything--the odd of secondary defects are high even if the backlight is repaired. This one has major corrosion on both sides of the board and I would not recommend it as a candidate for further repair.
If it has some special value, I could probably restore the backlight since the phone (miraculously) does not have a full short at the battery connector, but that would take time since the LCD connector is eaten away by water at the key pads for the backlight. I doubt it would be worth the time due to the chance of uncovering other problems.

Actually even with the water damage the phone was working. The screen got cracked, so I bought a new screen and something got broken while I was replacing the cracked screen with the new one.
