Second generation of Wi-Fi iPad, released on March 11, 2011. Model number A1395. Repair is difficult and will require heat.

Power button orientation?

I've gone to the trouble to replace the flex strip PMV cable and I'm up to the part where I place the power button back in contact with the flex strip.

However, because of either the angle of the button and that metal ring attached to the power button, I can't remember which goes where?

The ring can swing freely on one side, but the other side movement is limited (which of these 2 sides orients upward? Does the flex ribbon sit under or over this ring?

It seems when I try to screw the plate back on, with the metal ring swung dowward, there's not enough room. But at the same time, I can't seem do screw the plate back on if the ring is swung upwards.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Thanks so much. I have a nee problem: the power button itself doesn't work. I was worried about getting it back in; but after replacing the ribbon, it won't power up.

Any other thoughts?

I haven't even screwed it in yet. I just laid it out. The proximal portion is snapped into place and the mute slider is in place. I laid it out to get a sense of how much slack and path is needed. I'm pretty confident after reading all the instructions; to be SUPER careful with the ribbon. I tested the volume and mute (which work).

I'm just curious if there's any other place where there could be damage, if there isn't I'm happy to buy another ribbon; I just don't want to do that again if the damage is elsewhere.

Not to mention, I need to deal with the backlight issue now (that's fried, and looks like that is an even tougher repair).

Thanks again.
