Toshiba Dynabook AX 53D Troubleshooting

There are no signs that the computer is turned on, all of the lights are off.

Make sure the charger is plugged in and look for the illuminated charging light to confirm that it is plugged in and charging.

Remove and reattach battery the battery by following the battery replacement guide. If compressed air is available it can be used to clean off the contacts that connect the battery to the laptop. Replacement batteries are available both by Toshiba and third party brands.

Damage to the motherboard require computer disassembly and in most cases experience soldering.

The laptop charging light does not turn on, the laptop dies even while plugged in

Check to see that the plug fits snugly inside of the outlet, which can become loose with wear. A faulty outlet will make sporadic contact prior to failure, so you may have witnessed intermittent charging or issues with other devices in the same outlet.

If available, swap your laptop power adapter with an alternate to see if your laptop powers on. If the issue persists a new charger may need to be purchased.

While every key is unlikely to fail at once, functionality can be verified by the use of an external USB keyboard, which is likely to be automatically recognized by Windows Vista.

The mouse icon doesn’t move across screen when using the touchpad

Check that the touchpad hasn’t been deactivated with a keyboard shortcut, the key combo of ALT-F9 will disable and enable the touchpad.

From the start button, go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager > Mice and Pointing Devices. Select ‘Reinstall Driver’ and restart computer. If not resolved same process can be repeated with a touchpad driver downloaded from the Toshiba support page.

Touchpad issues can be verified by the use of an external USB Mouse, which will be automatically recognized by Windows Vista. If the touchpad is verified to be the issue then the touch pad needs to be replaced as described in the touchpad replacement guide.

The laptop gives normal sounds and LEDs when powered, but there is no output on LCD screen

LCD Display and video signal issues can be distinguished by plugging in an external monitor to VGA connector on the left side of the laptop. The screen can be replaced as described in the screen removal and replacement guide.

The Graphics card is built into the system board of the Dynabook and is not recommended to be replaced by the user unless the entire motherboard is being replaced.
