Device Won’t Charge

The HP Pavilion 15-d017cl will not charge, or hold charge once the power adapter is removed.

Faulty Power Adapter

Make sure that your power adapter is plugged into a functioning outlet. If the adapter has a charging light and it is not turned on, the adapter is defective. If there is no charge light, try charging another device using the adapter. If the device does not charge, there is an issue with your adapter. Consider purchasing a replacement power adapter.

Clogged Charging Port

If the power adapter is working, but the laptop is still not charging, the charging port may be the issue. Unplug the power adapter from the computer and shut down the laptop. Attempt to blow compressed air into the port, or gently use a Q-tip in order to clean any debris before reconnecting the adapter.

Too Many Programs Open

Too many applications running can cause the laptop to be bogged down with data. Make sure that the laptop is fully shutdown. Unplug the power adapter and remove the laptop’s battery. The steps to remove the battery can be found here. Wait one minute, then replace the battery and restart the laptop.

Defective Battery

If the power adapter is functional, but the laptop does not hold charge once the adapter is removed, the battery is likely defective. Replace the battery using this guide.

Device Won’t Connect to Networks

The HP Pavilion 15-d017cl will not connect to any of the networks that are provided on the screen.

Laptop Connection Error

When the Pavilion does not connect to any networks when starting up or opening the device, it is recommended that the device should be restarted to ensure a proper startup.

Wi-Fi Connections Problem

Ensure that the Wi-Fi connection is on and running correctly. If the Wi-Fi is still having problems, make sure to turn it off and back on then try reconnecting on the Pavilion.

The System’s Software

Check to see if the Pavilion has been recently updated or needs to be updated through the Windows system. If the laptop has not been updated, it is recommended to update the laptop since it will restart while it updates.

If the laptop is updated, it is recommended to do a system restore. To do a system restore, go into device manager > network adapters > right-click the wireless adapter > uninstall. Restarting the Pavilion will reinstall the driver.

Device is Slow When Loading

The HP Pavilion 15-d017cl will load actions slowly.

Faulty Windows Installed

Ensure the Windows is loading correctly and the device loads programs efficiently. If the device is running slow when booting up and loading programs, consider reinstalling Windows.

Too Many Programs Open

When starting your computer, a slow startup time can result from too many programs loading at once. If a lot of programs are open at one time, each program will run slower. Consider optioning out of the program’s immediate startup to improve startup time and close programs that are not being used.

Possible Virus

A virus or malware can cause the computer to function more slowly when starting up or loading programs. Consider running an antivirus and malware scan on your computer.

Hard Drive is Almost Full or Not Enough Memory

Depending on the number of programs you have on your computer, consider increasing your memory (RAM) or Hard Drive to allow the computer to run more efficiently.

Device Won’t Power On

The HP Pavilion 15-d017cl will not boot or illuminate.

Faulty Power Adapter

If the computer was able to run off battery power but will no longer charge, the AC power adapter may be bad. This can be difficult to diagnose if the device is already dead. Try borrowing a power adapter of a similar power output from a friend. Confirm that your wall outlet is working and attempt to charge the laptop with the comparable AC power adapter. The laptop will be able to run with the battery removed if the adapter is plugged in. If this does not solve the problem consider purchasing a replacement AC power adapter from the HP store here.

Battery is Dead or Will Not Hold Charge

To test for a faulty battery, start by plugging the AC power adapter into the laptop and a working wall outlet. Next, attempt to power on the laptop again by holding the power button down. If the laptop turns on, allow the device to charge for 15 to 30 minutes, then unplug the AC power adapter. If the laptop stays on, the battery was dead. If the laptop turns off, the battery is not functioning and must be replaced. The guide to replace the battery can be found here.

If the device runs on the battery it is recommended to evaluate the battery using the HP Battery Check utility available [http:// https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c0...|here].

Faulty Motherboard

If there are no results from the previous troubleshooting topics, the device hardware may be at fault. The charging circuit may be inoperative, or the charging port may be broken internally. Symptoms of this may include a loose charging port on the side of the laptop. Consider replacing the motherboard using this guide or sending the device back to HP if under warranty.

Screen Remains Black

When starting HP Pavilion 15-d017cl, the loading screen remains black with a mouse cursor.

Windows Not Responding

The windows software can freeze, causing the startup to not load correctly. Consider performing a hard reset that clears all information from the device’s memory without erasing any personal data.

Corrupted Graphics Driver

Corrupted graphics drivers or a problematic LCD display back-light can cause the device screen to not function correctly. If the computer is making sounds, consider connecting an external monitor to test the display.

Tasks Preventing Windows from Loading

When signing in, a blank screen can appear with an only cursor. Consider opening Task Manager by pressing “Ctrl, Alt, Delete.” Ending tasks such as: “Run Once Wrapper” will allow windows to finish starting up.

Possible Virus on Device

Malware, Adware, and Viruses can cause the device to not startup, or cause a blank screen. Consider performing a virus and malware scan on the device.
