Your computer crashes often, showing a blue screen with an error message.

The blue screen with an error message is usually caused by a corrupted Windows installation. To fix your Windows installation insert a windows DVD for the version you have. Then enter the recovery menu by pressing F12 repeatedly as the computer starts up. This will open the recovery menu. Use your arrow keys to select the DVD/CD option. Then follow the windows recovery wizard instructions to repair the system. After this your computer should run properly without this crash. If the issue persists you likely need to replace the hard drive.

Shutting down your computer using the power button is unhealthy for your computer and can lead to start up problems. This could be fixed by reinstalling windows. If your computer still shows boot up problems you may have to replace the hard drive.

The computer doesn’t turn on when you press the power button.

A possible reason for the laptop to not power on is a faulty charger. You can attempt to resolve the issue by purchasing a new charger.

If your battery is faulty, it may be unable to charge or hold a charge, which would result in the laptop not powering on. This is a common problem with any laptop that has been well used. To fix this you can try replacing your battery.

The computer screen is black or has white lines going across.

If images appear blurry or the laptop has other visual distortions, the problem may involve using outdated graphics drivers. This can be easily fixed by going to the official Gateway website to download new graphics drivers. Select “notebook”, then “NV series”, then “NV55C”. Then you should input your operating system version and install the VGA driver for the processor you are using. If this doesn’t fix your issue the problem is likely with the hardware.

If your computer has a cracked screen it may result in your display going black or having white lines running across it. If this happens you will need to replace the laptop screen.

Loading times for applications on computer are delayed or unresponsive.

Often a computer runs slowly because unnecessary programs are being run. You can easily fix this by simply uninstalling said programs. To check for programs that may be slowing down your computer you can use the windows task manager. After using your computer normally for 30 minutes or so, press control + alt + delete and select the task manager. Then you can scroll through the list of programs and look for any that you no longer use. Then you can click on them and select “end task”. Only do this if you know what the program is and no longer want it. Removing unknown programs can cause unexpected problems. Next click the start button in the bottom left of the screen and type “control panel” into the search bar. Then press enter and the control panel will open. Select “uninstall a program” and find the unneeded program in the list. You can double click on the program and it will either automatically uninstall or help you uninstall the program

If problems still occur after removing unnecessary programs, then you may be need more RAM. You can fix this by physically installing more RAM

Older laptops tend to have issues with overheating, and this tends to cause the computer to run slowly. You can often resolve this by simply locating the exterior fan on the bottom of the laptop, and using canned compressed air to gently blow any dust or debris off.

The inserted USB will not register as connected.

Oftentimes the reason a usb device won’t connect is related to the device itself rather than the computer. To determine if this is the case try connecting the USB device to a different computer and if it still doesn’t work, the issue is with the device and not the laptop.

USB will not fit completely inside the USB port. In some cases the USB can fall out of port on its own, or the device appears to stay in fine, but the computer still doesn’t recognize it. In the case of this happening an internal piece of the USB port is broken and must be replaced. Before replacing test another USB drive to see if it is a defective drive or the port itself. If you confirm the USB port is broken you can replace the port.
