There is no audio playing from the laptop.

The device’s audio may have been muted within the operating system. Unmute the device by pressing the Fn and F10 keys at the same time.

If you are attempting to play audio through a separate set of speakers or headphones, the audio connector may be loose. Verify that the connector is plugged all the way into the audio jack port on the laptop.

An outdated or corrupted driver might be causing the audio device to fail. This can be fixed by reinstalling the driver for the audio device. Press the Windows and X keys at the same time to bring up the Power User Menu. Click on the Device Manager option. Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers entry in Device Manager by clicking on it. Right-click on the device that is causing the problem and select Uninstall. Now restart the computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the audio device’s driver on reboot.

The laptop does not turn on after pressing the power button.

If the battery is drained and the charger is not plugged in, it will not be able to start. Plug the charger into the laptop and ensure the charging light is on.

Plug the charger into the laptop. If the charging light is not on but the charger is plugged in correctly, you may have a faulty charger. Consider purchasing a new charger.

The screen may be malfunctioning and the laptop may appear to not turn on. Connect the laptop to an external monitor using the HDMI or VGA port. If the external monitor works, the screen may be faulty. Consider replacing the screen.

The laptop becomes unusually hot during use.

The laptop has air vents on the bottom and intake vents near the display hinge. If they are blocked, the laptop will not be able to shed heat effectively. Be sure there is room under the laptop. It should be set on a hard, flat surface during use. Do not set the laptop on carpet or blankets.

Dust can accumulate in and around the air intake, fan, and vents. Use compressed air to remove built-up dust around the ventilation system. To be completely thorough, disassemble the laptop and air-dust each component individually. For a disassembly guide, refer to the fan replacement guide.

A small area of the screen appears unusually bright or dark.

The affected area of the screen may be dirty, dusty, or smudged. Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe away the culprit. For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of eyeglass cleaning solution or distilled water. Do not use ammonia, alcohol, or acetone-based products.

One or more pixels of the display may be stuck always bright or always black while the display is on. Try using a program to revive the pixel. Programs such as PixelHealer can shock the dead pixel into operation. If that does not work, manually coerce the pixel. Turn off the display, wrap a microfiber cloth around your finger and gently massage the affected area for 5-10 seconds. Turn on the display and see if the pixel works. You may need to try a few times. If the dead pixel(s) can not be revived, consider replacing the display.

The battery life does not last as long as it originally did.

If your device is running many programs at once, the battery may drain faster. Close any programs you’re not using or don’t need opened and uninstall any programs you no longer need.

Continuing to charge the device after it has been fully charged may cause damage to the battery. While there is no way to repair the damage already done, there are steps you can to prevent more damage from being done. When the device is completely charged, unplug it from the charger as soon as you can. Completely discharging the battery once a month can help the device to more accurately track the battery percentage left.

It is normal for the device’s battery life to decay over time with use. This decay generally takes a couple of years until it becomes noticeable. There is no way to repair the damage to the battery. Replacing the battery with a new one is the only solution.
