The Screen Is Black When Computer Is On

The Power button is lighting up and the fans are turning on, but the screen stays black.

Back-light Is Turned Off/ Broken

The back-light to your computer could be off or not working. To test this get a flashlight or other source of bright light and shine it on the screen at an angle. If you see the screen with the bright light shining on it this means that the back-light is broken or off.

Too check if the back-light is off log into your computer and go to the action center, which is the box on the right bottom of the screen. Click on this and then adjust the brightness, which is a little sun, to 100%. This should turn the back-light on and you should be able to see your screen.

Defective Or Damaged Screen

If the screen is not showing up when a bright light is shined on it or the back-light is broken, the screen most likely needs to be replaced. Go to the replacement guide and follow the directions on how to replace the screen.

Speakers Are Not Working

When I try to play sound from my laptop it will not make any sound.

Corrupted Audio Drivers

If the speakers are not playing any sounds, you can reinstall the audio drivers for your device. First, you need to go to you device's Control Panel, and you then click on Device Manager. You then click on Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. You have two options to choose from: you can update the drivers, or you can uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers. Both of these options require an internet connection.

Faulty Speakers

If the speakers do not work after the re-installation of the drivers, try plugging in a pair of headphones. If the headphones are working then it is the speakers that needs to be replaced follow this replacement guide.

Damaged Sound Card

If the headphones do not work then it could be the sound or audio card. Follow these instructions on how to replace the audio card.

Internet Is Not Working

My computer will not connect to the internet.

Forget The Wifi

Check if your device is connected to the internet by looking at your WiFi list in your devices' settings. If it is connected but nothing will load, you can forget the network and rejoin the network again. Clicking on the network should bring up an option like "Forget This Network". You can then rejoin the network.

Make Sure Your Network Card is Turned On

If you aren't connected to any WiFi network, check and make sure that your WiFi is turned on in your settings. An easy way to tell that your WiFi isn't turned on is if there are no networks showing in your device's network list.

Faulty Wifi Card

If your WiFi is turned on, but no networks appear on your device's network list, your WiFi card may not be working. Follow this guide to replace your WiFi card.

Keyboard Does Not Work

My computer starts up fine, but I can not use the keyboard. Only my touch pad is working.

Corrupted Drivers

If your device's keyboard isn't working, you can reinstall the keyboard drivers. By going to the Control Panel, and clicking on Device Manager. From there, you the option to update your keyboard drivers, or uninstall and then reinstall them. Both options require an internet connection.

Use a External Keyboard

If your devices' keyboard drivers are up to date and the keyboard still doesn't work, you can use an external keyboard instead. Connect the keyboard to one of the device's USB ports and make sure it is selected as your primary keyboard in the Device Manager.

Damaged Keyboard

If your devices' keyboard drivers are up to date but the keyboard still doesn't work, and you don't have an external keyboard, then you will need to replace the keyboard. Follow this guide to replace your keyboard.

My Computer seems to be running slow and I want to make it faster.

Get Rid Of Unused Processes

By getting rid of unused processes, you can speed up your computer. By holding the CTRL + ALT + DELETE you can open up the task manager to see what is using the most CPU. From their, you can end the tasks that you don't need as long as it's not a Operating System process. In addition, you can go into Control Panel and stop programs that run on startup (ex. Skype).

Old Or Slow Ram

If your computer runs slow when barely any programs are running, you may want to replace the device's ram. Follow this guide to replace your ram.
