Asus U50F-RBBAG05 won't read CD/DVD Discs

• Step 1: (WARNING - BEFORE UPDATING YOUR BIOS, BACKUP YOUR PERSONAL FILES!) You will need to know Operating System of your device. To find this, open "System" by clicking the Start button in the bottom left of your screen. Once you've done this, right-click on "Computer", and then click on "Properties". A box will pop up and under the line "Windows edition" you'll find something edition of Windows that you have (e.g. Windows 7 Professional) and under the "System" subtopic, you can view the system type (e.g. 64-bit Operating System).

• Step 2: Go to the Asus U50F Drivers & Tools Website. On the website, select your Operating System in the drop down menu at the top (see Step 1). Click on “BIOS” and scroll down. Download the BIOS, unzip it, and save it to a flash drive.

• Step 3: Enter the BIOS configuration by pressing the "F2" key as your computer is booting up and select "BIOS Settings" from the menu that pops up. Select “Advanced” and then “Start Easy Flash”. You can then select the external storage (flash drive) or local disk from the left side. Then select the BIOS file from the flash drive and click “Enter”. It will ask you “Do you want to update BIOS?”, click “Yes”. The operation will take about 2 minutes to finish. You must also “Load Setup Defaults” on the Exit page after updating (flashing) the BIOS.

• Step 4: Restart the computer.

The keys or buttons on the keyboard are not working

You'll need a new driver. You can use the "ATK0100" driver from your original driver CD or go to the Asus U50F Drivers & Tools Website.

• Step 2 (website): If you go to the website, select your Operating System in the drop down menu at the top. Click on “Utilities” and scroll down to the driver described as "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities". Download the driver.

• Step 3: Before you install your new driver, you'll have to uninstall the old one. Type “Device Manager” into the search bar that pops up when you click the Windows symbol in the bottom left of your home screen. In the box that pops up, click on "Disk Drives". Right click on the driver that drops down and click "Uninstall".

• Step 4: Now, go to where you have your new driver (either the CD or your Downloads folder) and install your new driver.

When keys can't be pressed, there may be something below the physical key holding it up. To fix this, remove the key and make sure nothing is stuck below it. You may need to wipe off the area underneath. Once it is sufficiently clean, snap the key back into position.

If keys on the keyboard are missing, replace them.

The camera does not work at all or the image appears upside down/inverted

• Step 1: Before you can get the new driver, you’ll need to know the PID number of the camera you have installed. To find this, type “Device Manager” into the search bar that pops up when you click the Windows symbol in the bottom left of your home screen. Then, click on “Imaging devices” and then right click on “USB 2.0...Webcam” and choose Properties. In the new box that pops up, click on the “Details” tab, and find the PID number in the Value box.

• Step 2: You will also need to know Operating System of your device. To find this, open "System" by clicking the Start button in the bottom left of your screen. Once you've done this, right-click on "Computer", and then click on "Properties". A box will pop up and under the line "Windows edition" you'll find something edition of Windows that you have (e.g. Windows 7 Professional) and under the "System" subtopic, you can view the system type (e.g. 64-bit Operating System).

• Step 3: Go to the Asus U50F Drivers & Tools Website. On the website, select your Operating System in the drop down menu at the top. Click on “Camera” and scroll down. Refer to the PID number that you found in Step One to find the correct driver to download.

• Step 4: Before installing your new driver, you’ll have to uninstall your old one. Follow the directions in Step One until you get to the “USB 2.0...Webcam”. Right click on it, and then Uninstall. Finally, install your new driver.

The battery on your laptop is not charging.

If the battery is old or has gone bad, try replacing it with this guide.

If you want to test if the battery is the issue, try removing it and just leave the power supply plugged in. Then press the press the power button. If this works, then follow the steps in this guide to replace the battery.

Cannot power up the Asus U50F-RBBAG05

First, try your computer at different outlet to see if that is the issue.

You should also check to see if there any damage to the charging cord. If there is, try with another, new charging cord.

If neither of those is the problem, check whether the charging cord connection (where the plug goes into the computer) is loose or not. If it is, it will need to be replaced.

Remove the power supply (unplug the cord) and then take out the battery (following this guide). Hold down the power button for 15 to 30 seconds, then put the battery back in and plug the power supply in. Press the power button again and the computer should start back up.

Asus U50F-RBBAG05 will not connect to WiFi

Press the Fn and F2 keys at the same time. If this does not work, go to the lower right corner of your task bar. Look for a logo that looks like an “I” (Wireless Console 3). Double click on it and you will see it pop up on the screen. Go ahead and click it and it will turn your WiFi on.

On the left side of the laptop (under what looks like a simcard slot) is a switch with a wireless symbol underneath it. This switch is VERY sensitive. Make sure the switch is turned to ON.

Check to see if your laptop is equipped with a Wireless Card. To find this, type “Device Manager” into the search bar that pops up when you click the Windows symbol in the bottom left of your home screen. Double-click "Network Adapters" to expand the list of network adapters. Look for "wireless," "802.11," "WLAN" or "Wi-Fi" anywhere in the list. If you see one of these terms, you already have a wireless adapter installed. If not, you’ll have to install a wireless card.

If you do have a card, you can try reinstalling the driver.

Once you've done this, right-click on "Computer", and then click on "Properties". A box will pop up and under the line "Windows edition" you'll find something edition of Windows that you have (e.g. Windows 7 Professional) and under the "System" subtopic, you can view the system type (e.g. 64-bit Operating System).

• Step 2: You'll need to uninstall the old driver first. Type “Device Manager” into the search bar that pops up when you click the Windows symbol in the bottom left of your home screen. Double-click "Network Adapters" to expand the list of network adapters. Look for "wireless," "802.11," "WLAN" or "Wi-Fi" anywhere in the list (it might say Intel(R) 6250 WiFi Wireless LAN Driver or Intel(R) 6200 WiFi Wireless LAN Driver). Write down the correct model. Right click on the driver and click "Uninstall".

• Step 3: Go to the Asus U50F Drivers & Tools Website. On the website, select your Operating System in the drop down menu at the top. Click on “Wireless”. Download the correct driver. You might need to do this on a separate computer, if so, save the driver to a flash drive and then copy it to your computer.

• Step 4: Once you have the driver on your computer, double-click it and it should install itself.

Cooling fan is always on and the temperature is high

Make sure that the fan works when the computer’s temperature is high and check whether there is air flow from the main air vent.

If you have many applications running (see taskbar), close them to decrease system load.

The problem may also be caused by some viruses, use anti-virus software to detect them.

Cursor jumps because the touchpad is very sensitive and it is catching your thumb/palm hovering over it as you type.

If you do this, the cursor will no longer jump around while you are typing, but you will have to turn the touchpad back on to use it.

Press Fn + F9 to turn on/off the touchpad.

If you do this, the cursor will no longer jump around, but you will have to use an external mouse

Click the Start button and click on "Control Panel". Select "Large Icons" in the View by section, then click "Mouse" to launch the "Mouse Properties" box. Click the "Device Settings" tab and click "Touchpad" in the Devices box. Click the "Disable" button to disable your touchpad. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Press the "F2" key as your computer is booting up and select "BIOS Settings" from the menu that pops up. Select the "Disable" option next to the touchpad device in the BIOS setting. Press the "F10" key to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings, then restart your computer normally.

If additional memory was installed after purchase, turn the device off completely, remove the additional memory, and turn it back on to see if the problem is fixed.

Un-install software applications. If you have installed software applications recently, they may not be compatible with your system. Try to un-install them in Windows Safe Mode.
