Overheating
Computer feels excessively hot to the touch or a heat warning has been displayed on-screen.
Cooling Fans Blocked
The cooling fans on your computer are subject to debris such as dust, dirt, and other foreign objects. Use a compressed air can to clear out anything that may be preventing your cooling fans from operating properly. If necessary to clean out debris, you can use our fan replacement guide.
Improper Positioning of Laptop
Placing your laptop on a blanket or thick carpet could cause overheating as this action blocks air from flowing through your computer. The Acer Spin 5 laptop vents air through the sides and bottom of the computer casing. If you are experiencing overheating, place your laptop on a flat, unobstructed surface to allow more airflow in & out of your device.
Battery Fails to Charge
No increase in battery life or indication of charging while computer is plugged in.
Broken Charger
Before troubleshooting the battery for issues, make sure that the charger you are using is functioning properly. Most chargers have indicator lights that can be used to confirm proper operation. If there is not indicator light on the charger, there may be an indicator light on the computer itself to confirm that the charger is operating correctly.
Non-Compatible Charger
Make sure that the charger you are using is compatible with your laptop. Using an incompatible charger for your laptop may not allow the battery to charge. Use our battery replacement guide if necessary. Using an improper charger could also cause damage to the battery.
Computer Unresponsive
Computer is completely unresponsive to any commands given by the user.
Faulty Battery
A failed or faulty battery results in the entire computer becoming unusable. If there is absolutely no indication of a response from the computer (i.e. indicator lights, screen flickering, chimes, or fan noises), then the battery has likely failed. In this case, you will need to replace the battery. Fortunately, the Acer Spin 5 battery is very easy to replace. Please refer to our guide on replacing the battery for more information.
Inoperative Display
If your computer responds to user inputs (i.e. indicator lights, chimes, or fan noises), but the screen remains completely unresponsive, then the display itself has likely failed. This requires the replacement of the entire display. Unfortunately, we do not have a guide for this specific repair, but there are many resources online that can assist in replacing the display on the Acer Spin 5.
Inoperative Side Buttons/USB & Headphone Ports
Computer does not detect devices that are plugged into the ports on the side of your laptop and/or the side buttons are not functional.
Debris Buildup
The ports and buttons on the side of your computer are subject to a buildup of debris such as dust, dirt, and other foreign objects. Use a compressed air can to clear out anything that may be preventing your ports and buttons from functioning properly.
Broken Ports
Extensive use of the side buttons and ports can eventually lead to the ports or buttons breaking. This occurrence requires the replacement of the side port/button assembly. The condition of the ports can be determined by turning your laptop on its side and inspecting the ports for loose or cracked components. If the assembly requires replacement, please refer to our side port and button replacement guide.
Unable to Connect/Unreliable Connection to the Internet
WiFi drops connection or fails to connect to WiFi networks.
Wrong Network
Assure that you are connected to the correct WiFi network by clicking the “Internet Access” icon on the bottom right area of your taskbar (Windows 10). Connecting to the correct wireless network should ensure a reliable and fully functional internet connection.
Broken Wireless Card
The Acer Spin 5 is equipped with a wireless internet card that enables it to connect to WiFi networks. This is a physical card that is located in the computer, therefore it can break or become faulty over time. If you are entirely unable to search for or connect to WiFi networks, then a broken wireless card is likely the issue. See our guide on replacing the wireless card in the Acer Spin 5 to fix this issue.
1 Commento
The screen flickers and the pixels separate. Sometimes the on-screen mouse flickers and gets stuck. The screen glitches (blinks, overlaps, and flashes) a lot.
