The mechanism of openning/closing is not working

It appears like opening it means the car splits in half to allow placement of motor and rider inside. That would mean that the part with the long spring in the middle must move back so it pushes the small part below it to the side. This allows the long part with the small gold screw to move back. That appears like it would unlock something to allow the sides to separate. I can't tell what the top and bottom pieces under the large screws do except to maybe give front to back clearance and holding force.
