Are the Pins too dirty to be read on my 2ds?

Are the pins too dirty or is it a different problem? I've tried to clean the pins but maybe I just didn't do it right?

I've also tried it in two different 2ds systems and it worked on one but it took a lot of tries. On the other one, I haven't gotten it to work yet.

The 2ds that I want to play New Leaf on reads Tomodachi Life just fine but not New Leaf so I think it's definitely a problem with the cartridge but the pins don't seem too dirty.

Idk maybe It's dirtier than I think it is.

Edit: My Tomodachi Life cartridge has the same markings as the image below but it works fine anyway

I got the game from eBay so I don't know what it's been through or how much use it had

@timbyto seems to be isolated to the game since it gives you issues on other consoles as well, which will rule out the card reader in your 2DS. I suggest you once more clean the contacts. Open the cartridge uop Smontaggio/Come aprire una scheda di gioco per Nintendo 3DS and clean the contacts with a good pencil eraser. Sometimes a bit of metal polish and a soft rag will help as well. Be considerate of the fact that this removes material so you want to use it sparingly. Then try again.

You are right of course. It is a used game so you really do not know the history of how it has been "treated" etc. Ultimately that is the only thing you can try and do.

@timbyto it's less abrasive then the chemicals and still removes carbon well :-) You do not need to rub very hard, just enough so that you should see a difference. No reason to rub through the thin contacts :-))

Using an eraser might be ok, it is an old trick, but I would not do it on sensitive RAM sticks because the rubbing can create static which may then discharge and blow microscopic holes in the die. I used to use erasers all the time until I realized the dangers..

Let us know if you take apart the case of that game are actually able to get it back together without glue.

It does look dirty, but the pins could also be damaged or worn. So, yes, being dirty could be the problem.

I would try to clean each contact with a high % Isopropyl alcohol (99-91%) and a soft toothbrush, or toothpick wrapped in a bit of paper towel. Be careful not to rub the contacts with the actual toothpick surface.

If all that doesn't work you might need a deoxider made for gold plated contacts, such as DeoxIT® Gold G-Series sold with a micro brush applicator (G100L-16BX).

Apparently opening the cartridge is not recommended because supposedly it does not snap back together, and glue might be needed. I have not verified this.

Thanks for the help! I'll definitely need to get some high % alcohol. Right now I only have expired 70% lol.
