my macbook now have a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 and Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB. I am wondering if there are any better logic board to upgrade to?

Sadly you only have two boards in your series MacBookPro7,1 and both are Core2Duo based.

Apple made a sizable change with the 2011/12 models and then again with the Retina models none of which fit your system.
