Why wont my computer boot?

Hi,

Here’s is the service manual for the Optiplex 745.

On p.181-182 of 212 (.pdf file numbering as there are no page numbers in the manual) it shows the diagnostic light error codes and the beep error codes.

I think that the beep error code that you posted is a Memory not being properly identified or used problem

The beep code list shows this entry:

error beep codes 1-3-1 through 2-4-4 - Memory not being properly identified or used.

Turn off the PC and disconnect the power from the PC and then reseat the memory modules i.e. remove / reinsert as shown in the manual (see p.83 on).

Reconnect the power and turn on the PC and check.

If still no good repeat above and remove all memory modules and only replace one and check.

If still no good repeat above and remove the module and insert another one etc .

The idea is to check each module one at a time in case one is faulty. If all are faulty, try a module in each memory slot, one slot at a time to prove that each slot is OK.

Always turn off the PC and disconnect the power from the PC when removing/inserting modules.

The PC can be turned off by pressing and holding the Power On button operated until the PC shuts down
