Device started few months ago not staying on. Found that it would work just fine as long as the charger was connected. Battery does charge okay. Stays charged if powered off. Get to boot and see home screen for less than a minute when charger is not plugged in. Plug in charger and it boots fine and is useable as long as connected to charger. All settings look normal. Even did a factory reset but same problem.

If the tablet stays on when connected to the charger but not when working on the battery only it appears that the battery is failing and is unable to handle the load.
Try replacing the battery and see if that resolves the problem.

This link to a video may also help as it is for your model, (although not the same problem as your tablet) and the battery is shown in the first couple of minutes.
Replacement batteries are available online although all that I found were “used” and not new. You may have better luck. Just search for Nextbook NX16A8116K battery to get results for suppliers.
Here’s a link to just one supplier. It is only shown to give you an idea of the cost of the battery.
