Is stored memory recoverable if the phone wont boot?

I have a Note 4 that shut down and wont restart. The Samsung tech said the Motherboard is dead. How is the data stored onboard? Is it possible to recover the data?

In addition, when plugged in the area under the sim card gets warm. No signs of life when plugged in.
