Why did my iPod Touch randomly go black and now won't turn on?

Why won't my new iPod Touch turn on?

- i haven't done anything to possibly damage it

-it has been in use for less then a week

-it turned off after me using it for a few hours straight

-there was no sign of its battery dying

-now when i try to charge it it still won't turn on

My iPod Touch 4th generation is less than a week old and I haven't done anything to damage it, but after using it for a few hours straight it died. There was plenty of battery life left and even after charging it still wont turn on. Does anyone know what;s wrong? Any ideas how to fix it?
