Is this a new router? If so it is strange that the WAN port is faulty. I suggest that you take it back for a replacement.
If it is used then perhaps that is why it was sold.
Are you referring to the actual connecting pins internal to the WAN connector itself?
If so then you will not be able to connect the router to a modem, but you can connect your PC to a LAN port and then setup the router.
