Background
The Diatek Model 600 is a thermometer made by Diatek Instruments, a Welch Allyn company. Thermometers are most often used to measure temperature; in this case the thermometer is a medical instrument used to check for symptoms of illness. Thermometers were first invented in the sixteenth century and were much simpler devices, sealed tubes shaped to have a bulb and stem, then partially filled with alcohol (NLM).
The Diatek Model 600 is digital and portable, it is most commonly used for measuring temperatures between 84F and 108F. The thermometer features a large backlit liquid crystal display, along with a switch to select either Fahrenheit or Celsius. It uses disposable batteries, has automatic power on and off, and can self-diagnose with any visual errors (Kroslak Enterprises).
