I have seen some strange things attributable to the battery.. including crashing intermittently and rebooting intermittently.. Since your ipod is 3 years old, the battery would be a good first guess. If that doesn't work, then come back and we will figure it out.. Hint: Make sure that whoever you buy your battery from, it is in a SEALED pouch.. Otherwise it could be partially dried out, or a battery that was rejected an an OEM part and sold off as new.. Lots of bogus counterfeit parts out there and the cheaper the part is, usually the more likely it is a sub-standard part. Also, make sure that the battery is for a gen 3 32 or 64gb..
Per saperne di piùmore info would be nice.. is this something that had been working, and just went out? Or, is this after an attempted repair? Or, it was dropped, dropped in water or something else? More info would be nice to send you in the right direction.. First thing I would do is backup my ipod before I do anything.. at that point, you may want to try to reset the wifi settings under about>general>reset ... if this doesn't work, try turning off the wifi and turning it back on.. If this doesn't work, try a hard reset several times.. IF that doesn't work, try a restore to an earlier time, assuming you have made a previous backup.. IF that doesn't work, then there is the chance that we are talking hardware problem, and we open up a whole new matrix of troubleshooting.. Try these things, and if this doesn't work, write back and let us know. Give us the background information too.. More info = more likely to find the problem OK?
Per saperne di piùMy experience has shown, that it is best to get the complete assembly. I can't tell you how many digitizer/lcd's I have destroyed trying to get them apart to save a couple of bucks.. Every now and then, I get one to work, but in the long run, the time, effort just isn't worth the results.. Like on the ipod/iphone gen 4's, just get the whole assembly and be done with it.. Yes, this is a hobby/diy site, but I think the guys with the experience shouldn't raise the hopes of those who are trying things on their own for the first time. I have/had been led down the merry road more than once by instructions that say, "separate the lcd and digitizer assemblies with heat" sure, sounds like a 10 second job, turns out to take an hour.. as someone else said, as a business, it ain't worth it.. And personally , for the amount of hassle, doing this sort of repair (glass only) just isn't worth the time and effort.. There comes a point of diminishing returns.. this is one example of that.
Per saperne di piùThere is a good chance that the housing assembly you bought has been sitting in numerous warehouses for the last several years. There is a good chance that the battery dried out. If you got a voltmeter, you can check the voltage on the pins. Should be around 3.8 volts dc or so, with the left pin being ground. If you plug in the charger and measure, you should see the voltage going up if it is low.. If it stays the same, the battery won't hold a charge, and a replacement battery is needed... The first thing I change on any iphone or ipod that won't turn on or charge is the battery
Per saperne di piùOn the ipod touch 4, there is a small switch that is glued/taped to the frame assembly. This part is very small, and inexpensive. However, it does require you to take apart the ipod to some degree. Once the front screen/lcd are removed, you will see a steel fram underneath. There are a number of screws that hold the frame down, they are NOT the same size, so make sure you keep track where they go.. There is a guide in the ipod repair section of this site that will show you how to do this. If this is too big an adventure for you, you can always ask some of the guys on here if they can fix it for you, assuming there are no other problems. This is about a 35-40 min job for someone that knows what they are doing..
Per saperne di piùI concur with the above answer.. Too many times, I get bad digitizers, right out of the package. I have even had the digitizers and the connectors come out of the bag, completely separated and obviously never working.. Hint: When taking apart the iphones, ipads or ipods, always try to salvage the digitizer, that is do not break it in case you get a bad one. Of course, having another one or two new digi's around is nice and makes checking things a lot easier, for someone doing a one-time fix, buying extras is out of the question. Plus, a test box to test digitizers is over 1300.00, and not many shops even buy them.
Per saperne di piùThere are really two possibilities that cause the backlight to die on the ipod gen 3.. 1... Lcd went bad. Just like on a laptop, the backlight is part of the lcd assembly. easy to replace IF this is the culprit.. 2... Motherboard went bad. The IC that is the driver chip on the motherboard for the backlight went bad. This, for most people is unrepairable. It is that small, and easy to screw up,. The best way is to try a new lcd in the ipod.. Takes about 20 mins of work to get down to the lcd and removing it and trying a new one. There is an excellent tutorial on this board that will guide you if you wish, or take it to someone that knows how to do this. If it is the lcd, this is one of the simplest repairs on the ipod 3.. enjoy
Per saperne di piùThese digitizers are very, very fragile.. Plus, when you install the ipod 4 digi, you should rewrap the connector with the copper tape that was originally on the connector and wrapped around to the front of the logic board. I know that the stickum was probably bad, so what I do is use a small piece of double-sided 3m tape to reattach it. If the connector is not taped in place properly, even moving the screen a bit could be enough to dislodge it. Sorry to say, but if I had to guess you are going to have to take it apart and double-check the digi to mb connection, and make sure it is tight.. If all this is done, then there is a possibility that you might have flexed the cable to the point to where it came loose at either end of the connections, and ruined it., Hope this is not the case, but I have done it more than once.. With all the ipods and iphones, handling the digitizer is extremely tedious and the more you handle them outside the case, the more likely you are to break something. These connectors and...
