There was a slight change in indentations that prevented me from removing the mechanics from the inside and swapping them. EDIT: Tried again, and yes, all the internal components can be swapped out. So if you want to restore an original portafilter so you have the solid build, you can buy one of these and swap everything from the plastic round with a gasket, to the internal mechanisms and springs.
