Hey. I just had the same problem. It belongs on the back side of the controller casing, on the interior. It is used for pressing the contact site of the reset button. The side that is flat lies flat against the casing, the side that is 'pokey' faces away from the casing and toward the board. If you have another controller, you can (slowly) take it apart and see exactly how it is supposed to sit.
