Laptop Display Flickers in intervals

I have an Asus TUF Gaming laptop with model no - Asus 705dt - Au016T with Win 10 OS on it.
Owning it since 4 years. Had been playing moderately demanding games on it ever since I bought it.
From a few months, the display has been showing signs of flickering which I ignored early on and used to gradually function back normal after some computer usage works.
Recently, it has been showing frequent flickering in regular intervals of 2 to 3 seconds.

Things which I noticed about the issue was;
a) when the Laptop went on a sleep mode cause of being idle, later the screen back ON by moving the mouse or keyboard , the flickering used to start again.
b)The flickering used to develop only in areas were there were more dynamic changes on screen like motions or dynamic graphics on a page.

Later dismantled the laptop to diagnose some minor issues myself by searching on the internet, but after assembling back, the flickering became more persistent and in a certain pattern covering 75% of the screen.
It flickers every 2 seconds interval.
Pages are visible on the display screen but a layer of the same page flickers over it.

Can any one please help me. I also tried uninstalling the Display drivers which I had. Later the drivers got automatically installed on Windows startup.
It doesn't seem like the Display screen has an issue, as I can see the pages clearly in between the flickering pattern.

Any suggestion / advice would be of great help.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you @jayeff

'Try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if the flickering occurs on it as well'. That's a good and simple solution, which I never thought of. Never the less, I don't have an external monitor.

There surely have been several ups and downs of electricity at my place, which had affected some of my home appliances in last few months.

This may have been the cause for it.

So, lately I took my Laptop to a dealer and got a new LCD screen for it. Apparently, it solved the flickering issue. I reconnected the older faulty LCDs the same time, it still had the same issues.

So, the new LCD screen replacement has solved my flickering problem, but the new screen was little pricey.

Hi @venkya20813,

The flickering may be the LCD screen's LED backlighting changing in intensity i.e. dimmer/brighter due to voltage fluctuations in the backlight power i.e. intermittent loose or high resistance connection (internal to the display or external to the display) or a problem with the LED backlights themselves.

Try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if the flickering occurs on it as well.

If it doesn't, then when the laptop's display is flickering, try moving the laptop's lid, very slowly, back and forth to see if you can make the flickering stop.

If you can stop it when it occurs then there may be a problem with the EDP (video) cable. Either a loose connection (either end, motherboard or LCD screen) or it is damaged where it passes through the hinge to get to the lid from the motherboard.

If you can't stop it when it occurs, then there's a problem with the LCD panel and it will have to be replaced.
