Power adaptor trouble in Ecuador...far away from apple store

I am far away from an apple store, (rural Ecuador...not that it matters), and my MacBook or the adaptor is failing. The power adaptor won't charge the battery and the macbook won't run off the adaptor. Battery at 11%. Shut down now. No green light.

Can I be sure the adaptor failed or could it be in the MacBook (DC board for example)? No other adaptor to available to test it. No other MacBook available either. Tried an SMC reset.

If I find a volt meter to see what the adaptor is putting out, and it is putting out the right nber of volts,it's I conclude that the MacBook is at fault?

Today there was some lightening in the sky. No problem with my iPhone charger.

Thanks

David

Not being a Mac person myself, I was just wondering if you have the availability of a multimeter, or just a simple voltmeter. Can you check your adapter and see what output, if any, you get? If your adapter is having the appropriate voltage etc, it might be a deeper problem like machead3 is suggesting.

Not sure if a manual would help you out but may be you can use it. Download it from here

It doesn't really matter where in the world you are, if you can't test, you can't be sure, period. If you were in New Jersey and your machine would not run off the AC adapter, I would tell you to replace it.

Yes that 's good advice in general, but he's not in New Jersey or anyplace where replacement is a viable option - this site is called iFixit, not iReplace it.

MacHead, my answer is correct. Your negative vote on this is completely unwarranted. The mail from iFixit runs to Ecuador. He needs a replacement AC adapter and possibly a MagSafe board.

Hey MacHead, two of your links go to answers I previously gave on repairing adapters, since you downvoted this answer did you upvote the answers you've used as reference?

This previous Answer may be of some help, here's another, and one last one I would say that it is not easy, but in desperate situations it might be your only option. BE ADVISED the problem could be your DC in board on the laptop.
