Correct wiring of MagSafe power adapter

Hi,

recently I repaired my magsafe adapter because the wire to the end of the power adapter got broken. I repaired it by opening the case and rewired it. My the wiring was it bit loosely and the connection was broken again. Now I wanted to rewire it but, I don't remember which wires belong together.

Here you can see a photo of the adapter. Which of these (the left or the right) belongs to the inner and outer wire of the cable?

Update

Thanks!

Connected it like you said and checked it with a voltmeter. All works fine :)

Wikipedia says that the outer pins are ground and the inner pins are +16.5VDC. Your picture shows two wires -- black, and green/brown.

By convention, black is ground, so that would make the other wire +16.5VDC -- therefore, the black wire is the outer pins and the green/brown wire is the inner pins. However, in order to avoid blowing up your expensive computer, please double-check the polarity of your power supply using a voltmeter. (Wikipedia also says that your power supply may measure +6.86V with no load -- so the important thing to measure is the polarity.)

Apple is now replacing these adapters for free as part of a class action settlement. Since you've already worked on this one they won't replace it but for any others out there that have this issue, take it back to Apple for a free one.

Thanks for the link!

It seems that the replacement applies to US customers only, though. Have free replacements been given in the UK too? (I've done a bit of googling but haven't uncovered an answer either way.)
