Why does a 1999 oldsmobile alero have two check engine soon lights and what does it mean if both come on?

Are the two lights a check engine light and a service vehicle soon light?

I suggest that you get the vehicle's OBDII port scanned for any fault codes to find out what the problem is.

Some of the larger auto parts retail chains in the USA will do this for free e.g. AutoZone, O'Reilly's etc or go to a GM dealer and get them to check

If there are any codes found when scanning (appropriate plug in scan tool is required) then knowing the codes will tell you what is wrong.

The lights are there for a reason so it is unwise to ignore them for too long as it may cause more damage to the engine if you do.
