Had a new battery installed a couple of months ago. Charging connection goes on and off some times get a “not supported accessory alert”. Got new cables, tried different chargers, cleaned lightning port. I’m capable of installing a new port, but is it really worth the time, effort and $ with such an old 6S?

Have you tried an OEM Apple cable or a cable with the Built for iOS devices branding on the packaging? Most of the reason why this pop up occurs is because of a cable without additional power protections built in. It could also be an issue with the dock/lightning port, but the other thing that comes to mind is there may be damage to the TriStar chip on the logic board. Which is much more complex repair. And requires microsoldering skills to fix.
It’s up to you whether or not it’s worth it to you to sink additional money into repairing the device, I would be shocked if it ended up being supported on iOS 16. But be aware that the dock may not be the issue at all.

Unfortunately there is no simple yes or no answer for a question like this. Thankfully Apple hasn’t cut support for the iPhone 6s with IOS 15. However that isn’t to say that they won’t cut support whenever IOS 16 gets announced. I only really try to upgrade my phones when they stop receiving security updates. But I think if you rely on this phone and you have the time, resources, and skill to repair it then I think you should go for it.

i’d give it a go. the biggest PITA is that the charger port is held to the case via adhesive. and you pretty much have to remove everything to get it out. however, the 6s is still a very viable phone - i doubt IOS 16 would drop support, 6s is a 64-bit CPU, but it’ll still be able to update to the latest 15.x if they do.
plus you can always use it a mini-ipad with wifi. :)
