The Early 2009 Mac Pro—also known as the Mac Pro 4,1—introduced Intel's Nehalem architecture to Apple's line of professional desktop computers in March 2009. The Mac Pro 5,1 used the same interior design but received further CPU updates in 2010 and 2012.

Upgrading Mac Pro from Single CPU to Dual CPU

I have a very specific question about upgrading a 2009 Mac Pro from a single CPU to a dual CPU.

I want to do this upgrade a little bit at a time, since the parts are kind of expensive. My single processor is a 6-core 3.33. If I start by replacing my processor tray with a dual tray, can I run the dual tray with only one CPU installed? For as long as it takes me to find/save up for the smaller dual heat sinks and a second matching 6-core CPU?

Yes, but you should be able to get the whole tray with heat sinks and minimal Cpus for about $200. I’d wait till I could pop for that much and then go for your Intel Xeon X5690 3.46GHz SLBVX 6 Core CPU X58 LGA1366 Processors.

Remember that the newer trays don’t work with the 2009. Also the CPUs on the 2009 need to be de-lided

Hola,

¿Y si el hubiera actualización y fuese un 2009 con 5.1? ¿Podria poner la bandera del 2010?
