Flashing question mark folder

Have a mid 2014 A1502 MacBook Pro 13”. Power it on. Give it a few seconds a flashing question mark folder flashes. Went online and found the cause of it. Did hold option while powering up. Hard drive didn’t pop up. So powered off. Tried command and r. That worked to start repair utilities. Went to utilities to find my hard drive to restore it wasn’t there. All videos and replies state that it’s the hard drive cable. Went online to find it,there’s are no hard drive cable for my model Mac. So how to fix?

Well the video's you've found are for the older non-retina models which us a spinning hard drive. Unlike them your system uses a solid state SSD which plugs directly onto the logic board (no ribbon cable)

Sadly, it sounds like your SSD drive has died. At this point you'll need to replace it with a new drive. Here's the IFIXIT guide to get to it: Sostituzione SSD MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display metà 2014 Here's one source MacBook Air 11" (2013-2015) 13" (2013-2017) MacBook Pro Retina 13" and 15" (2015) SSD Or, if you are looking for something larger check out Transcend - JetDrive 820 or OWC - Aura Pro X

My macbook was okay after I opened it while holding ALT+CMD+P+R, and this apple support page explains how to do this procedure : https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204063

That was it for me, they told me it was because I didn't turn off my computer often enough...

So if you haven't tried it, it can't hurt. If it doesn't work, then you can move on to another explanation...

Hope your computer is ok!

I did fix the mac by replacing the ssd and reinstalling Catalina. with an external ssd one. J also managed to backup the mac before and didn’t loose my shiet. Every now and then when i pressed alt and power to select where to boot from. I could see the mackintosh hard drive and i could boot from there but it always unmount within 30 minutes. This ssd externally tho caused other issues like i had problems with the wifi and apparently it was the side of the usb the ssd was on. It should always be on the left cause the left is more powerful. Took me 2 days to solve that one but i made it

Thank you Angela. This will be my last option. I already tried with one external ssd and it worked.

Nope! Changing the ssd didnt solve anything. Still flashing folder.

Well, there's not much beside a possible faulty flash drive. If it's not the drive, then it's the logic board that either needs to be replaced or repaired.

Did you install a fresh copy of MacOS onto it? A new drive needs to be formatted and have the OS installed.

Restart your system and hold the Option, ⌘ and R Keys to enter into Internet recovery.

Boot up under the recovery partition or external drive (reference the startup link above). Check the preference setting Startup Disk. Is it pointing to the correct drive?

@danj My problem is that the mac does not recognize the ssd. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. In the apple support they told me that it was the ssd and that I lost everything cause it was all damaged. Even that, I've been capable of saving everything because the mac recogized again the ssd. After that I changed the sdd but the problem still remains. Sometimes the mac recognize the disk and I reinstall the Macos and everything seems fine. But then, stops working and does not recognize the ssd again. I'm so sad cause I never had any problem with the pc, and he used to work so well. now it seems that I have to buy a new one.

Thank you for your answer anyway!
