How can I fix/replace the pairing button?

The soft rubber part of the pairing button tore apart when it was pressed too hard with a sharp instrument, and now it seems that the button mechanism on the inside is broken since I am not able to press the button anymore at all. There is an empty space where the button used to be. I have not attempted any repair or taken anything apart yet. I was hoping that this could be fixed. Thank you very much for any help you can give me. R

I followed the steps to open up the Jambox. The pairing button does not seem to be intact. All that I have is a small loose plastic piece about 1/8" long that does not look like it would work to push anything near the pairing switch (SW2).

Hi. Does anyone have any photos of what the aforementioned hard piece of plastic is meant to look like? I have removed the side panel and the soft white button on the panel is intact but there is nothing beneath so I don’t know what I’m meant to be looking for. I am loathe to totally dismantle the unit further. I’ve given it a gentle shake and there is nothing loose inside. Any help would be much appreciated.

The SW2 switch for pairing is gone. Must have become dislodged from the circuit board. Anyone know where I can order that particular SW2 pairing switch. Thank you kindly.

Hi,

Here is the Ifixit link which shows how to replace the charge port on a Jam Box. It is on the charge port board you will find the pairing switch (SW2)

Jawbone Big Jambox Charge Port Replacement

This link taken from the above link shows the pairing switch (marked SW2,- to the right of the slot cut in the bottom of the board as viewed in the picture), on the board. From your description it seems as though the actuating lever for the switch has been pushed out of the way, as in the picture it seems as though it is a normal push button type switch. You may have to figure out (if the switch is still connected to the board), whether you are either going to replace it with a switch with a longer actuating lever to reach the outside of the case or to either fix or replace the extending switch operating mechanism that is there now.

hopefully this is of some help.

Hi Richard,

Does the small plastic piece look like it is 'broken' off? If so are there any other pieces lying around in the bottom of the player? In Step #7 of the guide above the pairing button seems to be a round push type. Does it have a slot into which an operating rod could be inserted, which would hold/guide the piece of plastic?

If possible, before you go to all the trouble of figuring out how to fix the operation of the switch, prove that the pairing function still works by pressing the switch (SW2) (with the unit assembled enough to be turned on - use a suitable non metallic probe of some description e.g. handle of a thin paint brush or the end of a plastic pen).

If it still works and you are not to worried about looks and the existing button offers no solution, perhaps a small access hole through which you can insert a probe to operate the switch may be good enough. It might depend on how often you wish to pair the speaker.

Hi @marcman,

Don’t know about an exact replacement but you might be able to find a suitable compatible replacement switch here (or Digikey in your location).

I’m assuming that an ordinary momentary single make switch is all that is required as long as you find one that fits etc.

I had the same problem. My Big Jambox buttons came off & rubbers went sticky.

I removed the stickiness by rubbing Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol with a microfiber cloth. Now the surface is smooth.

Regarding the bluetooth connection, press the J button (1st one on the left) 7-10 times rapidly.

On the last press, its very important to hold it down until the power button starts blinking red and orange!

In the pairing mode, you should be able to connect to your Speaker. This worked for me !

Hope it helps!

This solution worked like a champ! This should be pinned to the top as for a quick-fix, there is no need to look further.

Much obliged!

Hello!

I just fixed my Pairing button by simply taking off the cap where the Pairing button is, and un-jamming the hard piece of plastic on the underside of the Pairing button. I tested the tiny Pairing switch/button and saw that it was working, but the little plastic tab on the underside of the Pairing button on the cap was totally out of line.

No need to take the other cap off or any other steps.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Acetone (most nail polish removers) is the best solvent to quickly resolve this. Be careful cleaning printed labels or they may also wipe away on some devices.
