For an engine to run it need four things:

# Fuel - is the engine getting fuel? Is the fuel fresh or is it contaminated?
# Spark - are the spark plugs firing when the engine is cranked?
# Compression - Does each cylinder have compression?
# Timing - all the valves have to open and close at the correct time and the spark plug must fire at the correct time.

Check all of these and ask more questions if required.
