Testo:

My mixer would intermittently turn on in the off position.  I took the back cover off and found a set of points that should be open when in off position on the speed control board.  I gently opened the points very slightly so they had a perceptible gap when off.  I set the indicator to position 1 to make sure they did make contact in that position.  Problem solved.
