Background and Identification
The Marshall MS-2 micro amp offers electric guitar players a freedom that could not be previously experienced. This portable half stack can be powered by battery or plugged into a wall socket through a separate cable. A belt clip adds to the portability, making this the best option for the mobile guitar player. The one watt speaker is controlled by a volume and tone knob with the added functionality of an overdrive switch which suitably matches the classic rock n’ roll tones.
Marshall modeled this amplifier as a shrunk down version of their famed half stack. It features a plastic casing in either black or red with a classic cloth covering for the speaker. The MS-2 shares similarities with the MS-4, which is a miniature full stack with an adjustable gain knob.
Repair of the MS-2 is very straightforward, as most repairs only require basic tools. Screwdrivers, sockets, and pliers are the only tools necessary to disassemble the major parts. Any repairs to the circuit board may require the use of a soldering iron, but this is as difficult as it gets. Despite the classic looks, the MS-2 features none of the tricky tubes, making it a very simple device.
