If your Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go 14 (XE345XDA) loses battery power quickly after unplugging or needs to be reconnected to the charging adapter shortly after use, follow this guide for potential solutions.
The Battery Isn't Charged
Ensure that the battery is charged, and ensure that the battery is depleted faster than the recommended battery health.
- Ensure that you use the factory or comparable charger to charge the battery.
Too Many Applications Running
The computer may be running too many applications at one time that can lower battery health. It can also be that the screen brightness and audio volume may be too bright or too loud.
- If the screen is bright and the audio is at high levels, it is recommended that you turn it down and close any applications that are running.
- Ensure that the computer is not overheating
- Connection to multiple networks and Bluetooth devices may also reduce battery life so it is recommended to not be connected to multiple devices
- Try battery safer and see if the battery improves
If the performance is at a moderate level, applications are not running, connections are at a minimum, and battery safety has not improved, it may be an issue with the motherboard or battery.
Software and Firmware Out of Date
Some firmware and software may alter the battery, or the original battery may no longer be usable, and that is what is causing the battery to no longer hold a charge.
- It is possible that the battery health is no longer able to hold a charge because it is old or faulty. System Updates may also cause performance issues that make the system to freeze or stop.
- Try updating the system to the most current firmware and software to ensure that the system is up-to-date.
If the performance does not improve after closing applications and clearing storage, it possibly is another issue.
Battery Failure
If battery is damaged or in poor health it may cause problems with the system, causing the battery to die quickly.
- Check by pressing CONTROL+ALT+T to enter the CROSH command shell.
- Then type the command battery test 0 into the CROSH command shell.
- It will display information pertaining to the battery. There you would see battery health.
Damaged battery cells can cause major system issues. If the laptop had been dropped or damaged, it may need a battery replacement. Ensure that the Chromebook battery is not swollen.
If none of the troubleshooting guides improved battery life, it is time to replace the battery to ensure that that is the correct issue. Follow this guide.
Poor Connection or Faulty Charging Port
The connection that the Samsung Chromebook uses a 45 W USB Type-C adapter and connects with a USB Type-C connection on the Chromebook to charge the battery. The connection itself between the charger and the port is needed to ensure proper charging.
- Ensure that the cable of the 45W USB Type-C adapter is properly working
- Attempt to use the adapter is charging with another USB Type-C device that can handle 45 watts.
- Ensure that there is nothing in the port itself
- When attempting to remove items from the port, do make sure to carefully remove said item with a cotton swab or plastic tweezer.
- When attempting to clean the port, do not use any liquids because it may cause more damage to the port itself.
If changing the adapter or cleaning the charging port does not charge the Samsung Chromebook, then the charging port itself is not receiving power. The charging port is soldered onto the motherboard, so the motherboard may need to be replaced. Follow this guide for instructions to replace the motherboard.
